brain surgery monday morning

I am having a craniotomy monday morning.. (It will be 4 weeks to the day, since my cerebral hemorrhage).. I just want all of this over with.. I have 20+ does that need bred starting in a week or so!!!! My neurosurgeon just hasn't quite caught on to the whole *farm life waits for no one & nothing* LOL.. I keep telling him I only have until Oct 1st to be *sick* then I have to be well enough to get breeding season underway!!! He has been so slow about everything.. He and the local radiologists were sure this thing in my head was very vascular (I went to springfield over the weekend and had a $20,000 /yeppers Twenty thousand!!!! dollar arteriogram done..(no insurance of course.. going to need to sell a LOT of spotted kids this spring LOL).. the thought was that I had an AVM -a cluster of arteries attached directly to veins.. LOTS of chance of bleeding out during surgery, enough that they were going to do a procedure to block off the arteries, before the craniotomy ... thankfully, the arteriogram came back as normal... so what ever is in my head is solid and calcified (which supposedly, cuts down on it being cancerous)...

I'm rather freaked out by the thought of what I am facing surgery wise.. but it's better then living daily in fear of another bleed or death!!! This whole experience has been rather surreal.. (like it's happening to someone else really).. I do think once I end up with half my head shaved monday morning, it's going to become real... real fast!!! ... so please keep us all in your thoughts come monday (poor Jess is so worn out and tired from the stress - and having to do my share of the goat chores, while caring for the baby...) we really need to get this all behind us. I'm trying to hang tough, but it gets harder every day that passes...so while I'm really scared of the surgery, I am happy that all the testing and waiting and worrying will soon be a thing of the past..

:grouphug: You will be through the surgery in no time, and back to your normal life, with half of your head shaved!

You know you have my prayers and meditations behind you, hubby, and Jess. I also know you are scared to pieces.

So, since you are going to have part of your hair shaved, why not just shave it all off and go with the Sinead O'Conner look? Then, when you get about an inch back, you can experiment with all sorts of weird dyes because, well, there isn't much there to mess up, and if you have purple hair with pink and green snowflakes in it, who cares?

Not that I did just that when my hair had to be shaved off. :D

(And yes, I AM trying to cheer you up with thoughts of doing silly things.)

Minelson 09/21/12 09:20 PM

My heart is with you! I really think that it will all be ok. Be strong and just one baby step at atime :) (((hugs)))

Suzyq2u 09/21/12 09:22 PM

Will be thinking of you Yarrow! I'm sure it must be scary, but you'll do just fine, I'm sure of it :) Hang in there!

Oat Bucket Farm 09/21/12 09:26 PM

I will be thinking of you! It will over in no time and you will be out yelling at a buck for jumping the fence before you know it. :grouphug:

See, now is the time to be wild tough. If you have to shave one side of your head, shave both and go for the mohawk look.

Cannon_Farms 09/21/12 09:29 PM

have you ever had any kind of surgery before?
while my sister lived at the children's hospital I spent time with some of the other kids and several had to have brain surgery , some where scared, some wouldn't let on that they where not, but one on my life's early lessons came from them coming out of it and saying the fear was worse than the surgery itself.
I hope you can find something to give you comfort. I do wish there was a way I could send you my son to help out but school and such..
best of luck we will be praying for you.

I actually plan on dying the half I will have left a brighter red (I'm a real redhead, but it's not a bright red or an orange)... as the shaved side grows in I think I'm going to dye it black and streak black thru my bangs.. I'm just gonna be the weird goat gal, who had the fit at the post office LOL.. (until the hair grows in some and the scar is less gross, well I've bought several brightly colored scarves to wrap around my head.. at least baby Zade will like the looks of them LOL)

I too keep trying to come up silly things to keep the nerves & stress down... humor goes a long ways in a very serious situation..

I will be hustling as many healing thoughts your way as I can on Monday. May you have such a speedy recovery that it will all seem like a moment.

Hugs and prayers to you. While we have never met, I read your post and feel for you! Take one day at a time, hope and optimism can work wonders!

mrs.H 09/21/12 09:52 PM

I think you should have your hair moon spotted! Then goat people will recognize you instantly. You can use it for a marketing tool during kidding season.

txplowgirl 09/21/12 10:11 PM

Even though I don't have any experience with goats I do have a family history of brain anuerisyms. Not me myself though.

Anyway, wishing you a speedy recovery and wishing I lived closer, I would volunteer to help with the goats. That would probably be a barrel of laughs. I think, lol.

Anyway, will be praying for you and your family.

Clovers_Clan 09/21/12 11:01 PM

Praying for you. I guess this means you will soon be hairless AND "Harris"less?

CJBegins 09/21/12 11:02 PM

Susie, I will be praying for you! I wish I could send my brain with you, maybe your surgeon could make it better.....put a shunt in.....something. I really hope things go extremely well.

You were talking about doing something different with your hair and I have to tell you something funny that my youngest son did. When he was 14, I had a rule, no dying the hair. So he came home one day with his hair streaked and I was a little bit ticked at him. His solution was to shave his head.....I didn't make him. When his hair grew back in, it was polka dotted. He was thrilled cause then I couldn't be mad at him cause that was the way it grew in. It was kinda funny. Darn kid.

The nice thing about hair......it grows back pretty fast.

Will be thinking about you lots!

Don't think of it as "brain surgery". Think of it as a "Good Disbudding". :nana:

Tallabred 09/21/12 11:30 PM

They shaved my head not all the way to the center. I could part my hair on the side and cover up the shaved side.

I was not able to open my mouth after surgery until I rehabbed those muscles. I lost 20 lbs! Plus it put me into menopause with no side affect and corrected my vision in one eye. But that was not the surgery but from the horse hoof in my head.

I will be sending good thoughts your way:)

April 09/22/12 06:55 AM

Sending major good vibes your way!

As a man who could not face life on a daily basis without his susy (suzq2u), I will be sending my positive thoughts with you, and your family. and when your spouse does something stupid, that you don't agree with or in a way you wouldn't, please understand he is trying to be helpful. So in that regard I wish you the patience to tolerate being down and out a few days to speed the healing process. Too much too fast is no good-life lesson learned the hard way.

Oh and by all means have fun with the hair/scare etc. ( this is not meant to be b.lunt) You are likely gonna be the town freak for awhile if you live in smallville USA- enjoy it- your 15 minutes, be wild be crazy-I found out early in life the less i cared about others opinions and the more about my happiness-the better person I became.

praieri winds 09/22/12 07:56 AM

you will be back on your feet before you know it and able to do what ever you want before long God bless and keep you and God be with your doctors and guide them

My MIL fell down in the garden and hit her head on a rock a while back. Se had a slow bleed and by the time she caught it, no joke, a blood clot had pushed her brain into one side of her skull. The doctor was amazed that she was conscious when she went in for surgery. She had her head shaved on one side and received the big "C' shaped incision. She came through it fine but the worst part of her recovery was brushing her hair. She had long hair and says she wished she would have braided the other side because the bandages made a big snarly mess out of it. I used Cowboy Magic to work the snarls out. It was really painful for her though because of the incision. So braid if they'll let you. The doctor will show you exactly where they'll shave. Have a really good detangler waiting just to make things easier. The Cowboy Magic (feed store) was amazing.

My MIL is fine now, just like you will be. She is back to being nosey, opinionated, and in our business just like we like it. Modern medicine is amazing. I will be thinking of you and your family on Monday and the days to follow. Please let us know how you're doing and remember to take it easy. Big love to you all.

When I fill out all of that paper work at a new doctor's office I always put "none" in the "What surgery's have you had?" question. . . .Then I remember, ask for the form back, they do not hand me the form but ask me what I want to add and I tell them brain surgery.

They always give me that look like - your kidding me right? - I always forget to put it down because I don't remember it!

Dreamgoat Annie 09/22/12 09:47 AM

Sending oodles and oodles of energy your way, Yarrow. Get well, stay well--we need you!

Sue

Strange Bear 09/22/12 09:57 AM

Good luck, I am sure you will fly through it all. I think you need to barter a goat or 2 to your doctor, then he will empathize with what you are dealing with!

Ranger 09/22/12 04:25 PM

Susie, I'll be pulling for you on Monday!! Think about my little buddy, Joss, who is only 1, and had 4, yep 4, brain surgeries in 5 weeks. She's doing great now, and I'm sure that you can pull this off with the same grace and healing that she has shown. With all these people pulling for you how can you help it?!!

Donna1982 09/22/12 06:27 PM

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers! We will miss you terribly while your recovering so you better recover fast!

Any of you Missouri gals able to give Yarrow and Jess a hand so Jess can spend some more time with mom and baby Zade? They could use a hand for sure. I would help if I weren't halfway across the country.

Ranger 09/22/12 11:55 PM
