Just lost my buck
I just lost my beautiful moonspotted buck. He was only 3 years old. He was fine yesterday, but this evening was laying dead in his pen. I can't figure it out! He was the only registered goat I had left. I think I'm done. I'm getting out of goats. I can't handle the heartbreak anymore.

Oh no! Sorry to hear. :(
Was he vaccinated with the CDT? Entero often kills quick like that. :( |

I read something at the vets office earlier today. Though I cant quite quote the whole thing it was close to this.
When humans die we can say what happens to our possessions, When a pet dies all they can leave to us is their love and memories to pass along to another lucky pet, that is the only thing that they can pass on in their passing is there loving humans to another pet. It was much longer than that but thats all I can remember. . Found where its posted on another forum http://mycockerspaniel.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5909 I had one of my big does die suddenly last year, milked her that morning, she was fine, came home at noon, she was out there with the rest of them by 4 pm my son walked into my room from school and asked me if I knew Regina had died. The shock was overwhelming and because it was very hot out she had already gotten to icky to take to the Necropsy lab so we can only speculate she died of a heart attack as she laid over her side in sandy soil and there where no struggle marks in the sand. Whatever it was she died peacefully. I have her daughter here thankfully but hopefully we wont find its something genetic. I speculate with all the tainted feed and careless or intense line breeding things like this will become more common. I cant remember but I believe you had a Nubian buck right? If you need mine hes here not being used and knows how to do his job well, throws a ton of color. |
Sorry for your loss Farmmom

Oh Farmmom no words to express except heartfelt sorrow.

I am so sorry for your loss! Sending hugs your way & the light to see through this. It's so hard when something like that happens so unexpectedly.

This is terrible :( I am so sorry. It just doesn't make sense at all. I'm sure you are knocking your head against the wall trying to figure out what happened. I am so sorry. I don't blame you for wanting to get out of goats but please just give it a little time before you throw in the towel. Could he have gotten into anything? I'm sure you have thought of that. Maybe is was a heart problem or something. I don't know but I sure feel bad for you. Any chance of doing a necropsy?? ((((hugs))) :( :(

Oh no.
I am so very sorry. :( |
I'm so sorry Farmmom. I absolutely understand your heartbreak, but at the same time, I believe sometimes they just "go home"..it's their time. When people "go home" unexpectedly we often think that going quickly is a good thing..no suffering with a disease, no pain. I think that about animals that we lose in a flash.
It really sounds like something just nailed him..whether that was a heart attack, or an aneurysm, it's hard to say. Just know that there was probably nothing you could have done to have saved him. He had a short life, but he had a great life..all because of you! Again, I am very sorry. |
Oh I am so sorry.

I lost a buck in warm weather a couple of years ago. I had him posted and the vet said it was like something bit/stung him in the esophagus and he died of anaphalactic shock (there was lots of fluid in the esophagus). There are lost of weird things that can happen that you aren't or can't be responsible for. Hang in there! I know how hard it is! And, oh, how I LOVE my bucks. So sorry for your loss.

About 5 years ago, I have had the same thing happen. My guy actually was pen breeding a doe and according to the birth date of the doeling, he had to have bred her a day or two before he killed over for no reason.

Minelson, I'd love a necropsy, but at this point, we're barely scraping by.

I lost a buck this way, too, a couple february's ago. Bred a doe during the day, and I took her away in the evening. The next day at feeding time, dead. :(

I lost a nigerian buck a while ago too, fine 1 day & dead the next morning. UTD on vaccinations, wormings, etc. The only thing I found unusual when we found him was some blood in 1 ear so were thinking maybe an aneurysm or something like that. It was such a shock.
