Alice, DH got Giardia from our well water. And it wasn't even tapped yet! He was cleaning out our well bore, which has been on the property for ages, and in the cleaning out process, he stepped under the plume of water being pumped out and more than a bit ended up in his cup of coffee.
We did, of course, sterilize the well with a gallon of bleach, which we allowed to gas out for a day, and then a half a gallon of 29% industrial peroxide which we allowed to gas out for a day, then we pumped it out to halfway below the table and tested it. THEN we started using it.
Although, even now, I have an under sink RO unit, and that is the water we use for drinking and cooking.
I hope you feel better soon. I also agree that a case of the trots that Immodium doesn't touch is a reason to go to the doctor. DH toughed his out, but it was 2 weeks worth of misery for him.

Seriously Alice you should go to the doctor. You'll want this cleared up before your trip & all the things you've tried so far haven't worked, it might be something you need prescritions for.
I had a friend that got C Deff & she was on medication for over a year before she finally got rid of it. She had been in the hospital for pneumonia is the only place the doctor figured she could have picked it up.
My hubby had a bout with Colitis a few years ago too & he couldn't get too far from the bathroom either. It took 2 doses of some antibiotic I hadn't heard of before to clear it up but the doctor told him it was caused from stress usually & you've had your fair share of stress lately.
Call the doc monday if your not feeling better. It will make all of us feel better.

Alice, do you have any corrective mixture? Good stuff.
If you have a deep well, I doubt it's giardiasis.
Something that worked when the children were little was black tea enemas. Yeah, I know, oogy, but it did work.

Oh, one other thing: Our persimmons are early this year. Have you eaten a lot of persimmon?

What is corrective mixture, Pony?
I don't eat persimmons, so that's not it.
I have some Kaolin/Pectin for the goats.

My healthy fairly young brother in law had c-diff, he hadn't been in the hospital. They don't know how he got it.
I had giardia when I was younger but had a really high fever with it, 105 I think.

Alice, if you have some bug in your intestine you don't want to plug up or thicken up your stools. All that does is allow the bug to hang out longer and cause you to be sicker. Your body is trying to flush it out, unfortunately causing dehydration issues in the process. If you aren't able to consume enough liquids to keep it balanced that is a good indicator that you need to be seen.....even if it's by the vet .

I understand that, and I waited two days before starting Imodium. HOWEVER, your fanny gets raw, and you can't sleep if you are *going* all the time or feel like you are about to *go.*
I've only made two bathroom trips so far today, so that's an improvement, and I'm going to try NOT taking any more Imodium and see what happens.
The enforced vacation is kind of nice. I've discovered if you are incapacitated and live alone, the kitchen stays clean!

For Pete's Sake- GO TO THE DOC. I got a bout of crytosporidium once. After two weeks of no real improvement, I could barely have the energy to lift my arms.
Doctor took sample, ordered antibiotic and I was good within a couple of days.
Sorry for the yelling but I really really mean it. Somethings actually cause damage to the gut and you never are totally right after. Knowing is good.

You know, it's really easy to say Go To The Doc if you don't live in the Ozarks.
There is no doc within 40 miles on a weekend, and it's Ozark windy roads. (an it is raining)
If I'm not SIGNIFICANTLY better by 8:00 AM Monday, I'll go to our little clinic and see the PA.

It would have been easier to say nothing.

The bad news is that stopping the Imodium did not work. I just took two.

Thank you, Carla, yes, I am. No huge cramps, not dashes to the bathroom. Trying to work out what to consume today. I think it's going to be beef and chicken broth with a bit of rice later if things go ok.
I'm still going to the doc (PA) in the morning to see if they can determine what this is. If I need medication to be able to fly to California on Friday, I need to get that started.
Thank you to all the board members who posted here. I was pretty scared by yesterday! You are a comfort to me.

Glad your going to the doctor tomorrow Alice, that's the best news I've had here all day! I sure hope they figure out what's going on & can easily be taken care of.

If this helps-C-diff generally has a golden colored, foul/unique smelling, sometimes foamy, loose stool.
Oh, I hope you get better before your trip!

Ah, no foam or foul.
Yes, I tried Bananas, and the pain was quite unique. I don't eat wheat, so toast is out.
On Sunday, I added a bit of rice to my beef broth. Waiting to see if there are repercussions.
When I go to the doc today, I'll pick up some applesauce.
Today is Monday, and I need to make the three hour drive to Little Rock on Thursday afternoon. The clock is ticking.
