Luvmybabies,

Next time you need to do something like that go ahead and flop him over on his side and have husband not put his full weight but sit where one knee is holding the neck down and the other the shoulder. If he cant move his shoulder to get up the relax very quickly and its a lot less hard work, though if your buck is huge your husband may have to do the whole shoulder why you are someone else does the neck.
I do this to goats who totally freak out over having their feet done and it seems a lot less traumatic for them.

We milk Nubian does right now and used to raise fullblood Boers. When we keep a fullblood Boer buck with our Nubians, he keeps his horns. The Nubians do not. I've only ever seen a Nubian doe's horns grown out a couple times and they are wicked compared to a show quality Boer doe's. If I had Nubian does with Boer doe horns, then the horns would stay because they don't intimidate me on a tame animal. Mixing horn and dehorned is generally not a good idea in either goats or cattle, but they all know the male is dominant and he doesn't have to prove it to the girls by hurting them. The horned ones certainly take advantage of them. In a goat herd, you get some belly butting and horns make an injury more possible.
