A buck for me? Maybe??

My Alpine world has been a mess..... Two deals on Alpine bucks fell through & I sent mine to slaughter because he attacked me......Before sending him off, I got kids out of him, but all were bucks, and none were the type of quality I wanted to keep...

My mom & I ordered doelings from Soldier Mountain & was in the process of working out shipping when my mom got sick..... Canceled the order, then of course a few weeks later the does we wanted kids from had beautiful doelings....

I'm having to jump through hoops to get my 2 Alpine doelings registered (waiting on DNA test).....Biggest hit of all was loosing Astra.... She was the perfect example of what I wanted to replicate in my herd & I so wanted a buck from her, but ended up loosing her & her kids (doe & bucks twins) in an emergency c-section......

I have one really nice, older doe who appraised well that I would REALLY like another doe kid from, but due to her age & cystic ovaries, I have to chose my buck wisely as I may not have many chances left to get kids from her..... Worked out a stud arrangement, but it fell through..... Have 2 others on the table, but they aren't quite what I'm looking for....One is really nice, but I'll have to drive 3 1/2 hours to use him... Had an offer to lease a buck out of Redwoodhills Revolution Speed, and on paper the buck looked nice, but in person he was lacking the width I really wanted & he wouldn't bring anything to the table that would take me closer to my goals....

Was getting frustrated & planned to sell out my Alpines & just focus on my Lamanchas since they ARE going the direction I want them to....

But, I *may* have the perfect buck! I'm not getting too excited yet (trying not to anyways) because I've been trying to get him for 4 months now, but supposedly I can go get him next weekend! :)

It will be a total outcross, but he's got what I'm looking for so hopefully he'll do what I think he will. Ginger appraised at EEVE 91 & her biggest faults are teat placement & her front feet toe out a bit..... But her udder is wonderful, has the perfect cigar shaped teats I like so much & at almost 9 she still stands on strong feet & legs, with perfect, tight toes (hard to find in Alpines).... Buck shares most of her good qualities, though teat placement on the does behind him is better, as is rump angle & fronts are straighter.......

Oh, and did I mention that he's Astra's 1/2 brother (same dam, whose udder I LOVED, & Astra had a lovely udder as well)??

His sire is kinda famous in the Alpine world too, with lots of lovely does behind him & produced by him so if his son throws an ugly udder I'll be shocked....

Anywho, cross your fingers for me, this next week wondering if it is actually going to happen is going to drive me nuts!

And, if it all falls apart, I'll weep hysterically, then I'll just breed Tonka to everyone & have 4 does kidding out earless mutts....... See? I'm not too negative, at least I have a backup plan! :D

Good luck he sounds great!

Donna1982 08/15/12 06:04 PM

Have our fingers crossed. I know that excited waiting feeling all to well.

Minelson 08/15/12 06:42 PM

How exciting!! I will keep my fingers crossed that you get him. :) :)

LoneStrChic23 08/15/12 07:00 PM

Thanks y'all..... I've been a bit obsessive the past few days..... Digging through linear histories, type & production evals & running through the gobs of pictures......

I've collected pics of the bucks sire, grand-dam, aunts, siblings ect. ect (this side of the family is the easiest to hunt up pics from as the sire was so heavily used) & on his dam's side I think I've found pics of everyone, except his dam, but I've seen her in person, so no worries :)

I haven't seen the buck since the begining of the year...... He was scruffy, needs copper bolusing & has a huge ugly scur...... Scuffy & copper I can fix (assuming those haven't improved), & though I hate scurs, scurs don't interfere with producing kids, so I'll get over it :)

Well, cripes! I wish I had known you were going to need a buck when I sold all of mine.

That darn fortune teller NEVER tells me what I NEED to know! Of COURSE I am going to see a tall, dark, handsome stranger later today with whom I shall share intimacies! He's my gyno, happily married, and even if he wasn't, and I wasn't, there would never be a chinaman's chance! What I NEED to know is, "Your dear friend will need an Alpine buck in 3 months, so don't sell the wide one." (I.e. the one whose Granddam is Soldier Mountain Italian Ice.)

Well, hon, you could always A.I.!

Keeping my fingers AND toes crossed!

LoneStrChic23 08/15/12 07:45 PM

LOL!!! :)

In theory I could AI, but the reality is, I don't have, nor can I afford my own AI equipment :( ..... Have someone who may be willing to do it for me (if I bought the semen), but they are 4 hours away.... Then add in that Ginger is not a good AI canidate due to her cystic ovary issues (it's been tried twice, and even live cover isn't always a sure bet with her)...

Plus stud fees/semen cost, my potential stud owners prefer not to board, and the FUEL COST, & then what if after all that, my does don't settle?? I need a buck..... If worse comes to worse, I'll use Tonka... He's beautiful, very correct & his daughters should milk, but I won't get much for expiremental kids, but I can eat the bucks & send doelings away cheaply and they'd be great backyard milkers...

Italian Ice is such a lovely doe! She was 5th place "Aged doe" at this years Nationals and still just stunning! Did you at least use her grandson on your does before selling?!?

My girl Ginger (Waiilatpu WRAT Ginger 4*M), is the dam to Tracy's (Soldier Mountain Alpines) doe "Irene"....... Just saw on FB that Irene was 9th place 4 year old at this years Nationals.... So I know if I choose wisely, I can get a really nice kid out of Ginger.....

The sire to the buck I hope to bring home is ++*B GCH Tempo Aquila Free Radical

:D

Out of all of my bred does this spring, I got ONE (count 'em ONE) doeling.

She is Arbre Sage Icy Pines (Princess for short). :) And is looking to have all of her great-grand-dams lovely characteristics, including color! And yes, RETAINED big time!

coso 08/15/12 07:51 PM

Pearl Valley is dispersing, or was, if this doesn't work out.

CaliannG 08/15/12 07:53 PM

I realy like Tempo Aquila's lines. They are marvelous. And, of course, it is almost impossible to go wrong with Waiilatpu! ~sighs~ So many great bloodlines, Pearl Valley, Sodium Oaks, Redwood Hills, Jobi, Mamm-Key....so little time!

Before we decided to go Mini this year, I was going to use this guy: BIO-Genics, LTD ~ *B Pearl Valley Yreka Legacy

Backfourty,MI. 08/15/12 08:15 PM

Crystal I'm keeping my fingers crossed & PLANNING on a new thread by you with your new herdsires pictures posted by Sunday!!

Ranger 08/15/12 08:37 PM

Sending good thoughts for a wonderful buck to come your way!!!!!!!!

LoneStrChic23 08/15/12 09:50 PM

Yea... I've already drooled over the Pearl Valley sell out list.... Can't afford shipping/transport though :(

I have Ginger's daughter (my sweet lil Heidi) whose sire is out of GCH Pearl Valley Prodig Lovely 5*M L.A. 93 EEEE & *B Willow Run Soldier Bolero..... There was a bit of mix up when pulling semen out of the tank on the breeding that produced Heidi's sire, so we're having to wait on the sire's DNA test so we can register him & his 2 doelings I own.......

So happy you got a doeling Caliann! I too only got one doeling this year... "Tricks", but she's beyond precious & even though I can't breed her this year, I have a nice South Fork boy picked out for her next year ;) Didn't know you were going mini though! Mini Alpines? If so, what Nigerian line will you use? Jobi?? :D

Love, love Tempo Aquilla animals, just beautiful! This link shows the "Radical" family:

One of these days I'll get my own AI equipment! But to tide me over until I can, I'm going to watch a few AI's late this fall & save up my pennies :)

Keeping my toes crossed for you! I would cross my fingers but then I wouldn't be able to type. Hoping the perfect buck comes along for you.

LoneStrChic23 08/17/12 11:58 PM

So, if the world doesn't fall apart between now & Sunday, I'm supposed to go get this buck Sunday.

Original plan was for NEXT weekend at the soonest, but got a call this evening that if I wanted him, come get him this weekend...... HORRIBLE timing, but I'll make it work somehow.

From the description I got on the phone, I'll have some scur trimming to do..... Said the last time they looked at him his scurs were close to his neck & very wide (owner is in bad health, has somone else who cares for him)....... So I'm picturing some grotesque, mishapen horns....

But ugly heads don't make babies, so I'll deal with it ;)
