Also I wait on the Probios until I'm done with the antibiotics then start giving the Probios paste.

Also checking in to see how Einstein is doing. The people here have been so great with good advice and helped me to get Warrior back on his feet and going good. Molassas worked great as well as the other medications suggested. Warrior needs a trim on his coat-definately affected his coat and skin with whatever he had but he is up and around and eating well and walking like a pro.

Thank you all SO much for your advice and concern. I am still a little baffled. He is alive, and seems to be improving, but not as quickly as I thought he would. I gave him all the antitoxin that I had, which was 15cc, should have been plenty, he is only 4 months old.

I suppose I will go ahead and deworm him with the injectible ivomec plus, it can't hurt, although he is starting to not like me so much with all of this poking and force feeding him nasty tasting things

The goat dairy that gave me the antitoxin said that it did not sound like entero, that it sounded more like head trauma from the symptoms I described (he is eating fine, never bloated, and didn't seem to be in pain, just had no coordination at all and occasionally went completely stiff, almost like a fainting goat). I couldn't think of ANY possibility of how he could have POSSIBLY hit his head that hard or sustained any trauma that would be that severe...until... I went out last night to give them all some grain and check up on things, and my 2 nubian kids had somehow gotten past the gate that I put up. onto the staircase that goes up to the loft of their small shelter. There is a big hole in the floor of the loft, which is why I had it blocked off, but they must have gone over or around the gate somehow and got up there. I wonder now if there is a chance that he could have fallen from the loft and landed on his head? It seems unlikely to me, goats should be smarter and more coordinated than that, right? But they were not supposed to be able to get up there, and somehow they did.

I will have to keep a very close eye on him, I am still giving him the penicillin, with a twice daily drench of comfrey, aloe, b vitamins, honey and probiotics.

Still trying to get to the bottom of this and really keeping my fingers crossed that he makes a full recovery. At the very least, it looks like he will survive. He seems to be improving a little bit every time I check on him, but he is definitely still a little "off"

doesn't help that he also has a rather large scur that looks like it may fall off soon. It is sore and a little bloody at the base

Smarter and more coordinated than that??? I have one that falls off the milk stand every day. She gets so into eating its like she forgets. Her head is still in the stanchion. He very well could have fallen through. Poor guy.

Do you think maybe some steroids or banamine would help with brain swelling?

Could he have been kicked by another goat or do you have bigger livestock that could have kicked him?

Keep up on what your doing now anyways, even if you see improvement since it's not good to start antibiotics then stop them so do the full 7 day treatment.

I don't have any bigger livestock. He is in with 2 other kids about his size, they are not big and I do not see how they could hurt each other that badly.

Good news- he is doing MUCH better. I would say he's almost back to normal. However I think he is going to lose his scur, and I am worried that it's going to be a big mess Any thoughts on what I might do about this?

I feel awful that he could have hurt himself by getting up into that loft. I really thought I had it blocked off so that there was no way for them to get up there. I guess I will never know what *really* happened, but at least it looks like he's going to be ok.

Been following this...I am so glad that he is doing better Trout. We have a big ole crib that has the slotted wooden sides. Over the years..we will see, especially the younger goats, start racing back and forth ..they come to the wall and jump half way up it..come down and race across to the other wall to do the same.

In this process..one kid did break a leg..and more than one has been "stunned" by miscues with the walls and the other kids. These things happen..I can't see blaming yourself.

I bet if it was a fall from the loft..he won't be quite so quick to take advantage of doing that again.

Best of luck to him..glad he is recovering.

So happy he is better!
When Frankie looses his scur there is usually just a little blood on the nub. I have some blood stop powder on hand but have not needed to use it for that. I would make sure to have some SWAT on hand though to keep the flies off it.

You tried to prevent the ACCIDENT so don't beat yourself up. it was an accident and they happen all the time. I guess you could keep them in a padded room...although then they would eat the padding and get sick. See?! You just can't win!

I'm so glad he's better. If you think he might tear off his scur and it is thin enough to be trimable, I might trim it.
