Pony, just saw this thread, and I'm SO sorry. What an utter heartbreak. I have the greatest respect for you in doing what had to be done; I know how hard it is, but you did the right thing--the ONLY thing that could be done. Hugs.

All I can do is give you a huge hug Pony (((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))). I don't know I would have been brave enough to make that call. I hear you on the mind playing tricks, even now sometimes I swear I see my boy out of the corner of my eye even though I know he is gone .

no matter what animals do even when they do bad things that may be natural to them and hurt us in the process we still love and wish that they were still around and the only people that would understand what i mean is people that have had animals.......

pony i'm sorry that you had to come to that but i'm glad you did that instead of giving him or her (not sure sorry) away for adoption like some people do ....that was very brave of you and your husband to do....i know it hurts now and will probley hurt in 10 years but remember the good times you had with them and it will make the pain easier..... hugs to you and your husband

Oh Pony! I am so, so sorry!

It wasn't your fault. I love AmBulls, but recently... sigh, I looked for one for 3 years and I could not find a line that didn't have issues like you described. So many people saying "he was just the best dog ever and then one day..." Good people, experienced people, people who had owned the breed for years. It's amazing how much a breed can change between bringing home one puppy and looking for the next.
That had to be so hard, and I'm so sorry that you all had to suffer through it.

I know it doesn't help. But... I raise the World's Friendliest kittens. I don't breed them and I'm not entirely certain what my trick is, but I have raised (never bred, it's nearly always a pregnant one who finds me with the occasional oops, didn't get to the vet fast enough) litter upon liter of whisker-kissing, shoulder-riding, perpetual purr machines.
The latest of which is in a dresser drawer right next to me as I type.
You may not be ready. And they certainly aren't, not for at least another month. But if you become ready, in a few weeks, let me know.

Ack...I just saw this
Been there done that...all I can offer is my sympathy.
We had to re-home a Great Dane that we raised from a pup because she was heck bent on killing goats. It's never easy to loose a pet.

Oh Jeez Pony, I am so sorry. I just saw this thread. After what you've been through you can drink the whole winery.

Y'know what, Otter? We DID have a great AB - Buster the Wonder Dog. We raised him from a pup, but we taught him that the cats were higher in the pack than he was. Buster NEVER hurt a kitty. In fact, he would come and whine to us when the cat stole his bed! Buster was the reason I loved the breed and wanted another one... .

Your offer of kitties cuddled by your lovable family is tempting indeed... I shall certainly share the offer with Nick. I'm not sure when he'll be ready, but I think he needs a good cat.

Oh, I've known some awesome ones too. That's why I wanted one. I groomed some great ones (yes, groomed, people want them bathed not in their house, lol), worked with some great ones as a trainer, and when I was a teen, a breeder lived a few roads down from us. He had this amazing looking white male. Gentle as anything but such a character. They hung a small tire in a tree and he would run at it, fling himself, and swing merrily by his teeth.
Once, they had a litter of pups and they were out in the yard every afternoon to give mom a break. I walked by and heard that white dog raising a ruckus, whining and crying. By the time I got over there he was pulling down the chain link. His puppies had gotten out. Great dog.
But it seems the ones with the classic temperament have gotten really hard to find in the past 10 years or so.

Stormy is great! I've got a bunch of pics on the camera and as soon as I get them onto photobucket they'll be on here to show off his handsome self! He and Honeysuckle are Bestest Best Friends now. I'll see if I can sneak a couple of kitten pictures in there too. A good cat is necessary for a full and happy life. I've yet to raise a kitten that wasn't obscenely friendly.

A home without a cat -- and a well-fed, well-petted and properly revered cat -- may be a perfect home, perhaps, but how can it prove title?
