I'm SO sorry. I lost my sweet La Mancha milk goat last week when she turned suddenly ill. I know the pain and frustration you are feeling. <Hugs>

I'm sorry you are going through this. I understand wanting to just quit when you lose a kid, and you've lost all 3! We had pygmies for awhile. I had one that was a bottle baby and I really got attached to her. One day DH found her dead in the pasture. I was devastated and we ended up selling our whole herd. That didn't last long though. I never realized how attached I had gotten to goats until my baby died. We now have a growing herd of ND's. So please, don't make a hasty decision. Wait until the pain is lessened some before making any decisions.

Thanks everyone for your support. We haven't totally given up on Trixie. Overall she is healthy and alert, but barely making any milk. After the last couple of days, I am fairly certain that those kids were not getting enough to eat. I am just so shocked at how energetic and healthy they seemed for the first 2 days, and then the 3rd day, just dead. I thought they would act weak and lethargic if they were starving. Our decision to bottle feed them came one day too late. Live and learn, I guess Trying not to dwell on the could've should've would've, there's nothing we can do about it now except learn from our mistakes

As for Trixie, we may try to clear up this infection and retire her as a pet or companion animal. She was one of our first and has a great personality, we really don't want to make sausage out of her (besides we already have 2 wethers for that). But I don't think she's got much of a future as a dairy animal after last year's injury. We are milking her out 4-5 times per day right now and treating aggressively with herbs and homeopathy. The infection is improving but her production is extremely low.

We are still on the fence about selling the whole herd. Will continue the conversation in the coming weeks.

I understand the heartbreak. I have two that are pets. Just can't part with them, but they can't be breeders.

I am sorry for your loss. My guess would be that they got too cold and hungry. The mom either couldn't or wouldn't take care of them. It's very sad. I am sorry.

Try not to beat yourself up about it. These things tend to happen ocassionally. I have one goat momma that picks one baby to smother with goaty love and she lets the other one or the other two (she's had triplets before) die unless I am around quickly to intervene. I was at a wedding this year and she kidded early. Came home to a bad scene.

This is really sad, and I am sorry. :-( The good news is that it isn't anything contagious.
