They act like themselves the first time. SOME goats birth like their dams birthed...a lot of goats have their own deal. SOME FFs have difficult births, some have easy ones.

~grinz~ It is a lot like us. My mother had difficult pregnancies, I had easy ones. But I had harder births. Not sure if that was a good trade-off.

And yes...I BOUGHT cheap, plastic lounge chairs JUST for sleeping in the kidding stall.

Lol! DH bought me an army cot last year. Getting it out and dusting it off this weekend! I meant to get a sleeping bag, too, but forgot.

I used to midwife mares for a physician friend who raises Warmbloods.

Tip: hang Christmas lights in your kidding stall when you sleep in the barn. It's festive and they throw just enough light not to interfere with sleeping but enough to definitely see what's going on.

I would not recommend doing this.

IAW The Doe Code, this will mean that she holds off giving birth at least three days, and maybe up to a week or even longer if you get really warm and comfortable!

Or you'll wake up with her giving birth on you maybe. That would fit right in with the doe code of keeping you involved in every little thing...

LOL! Okay, 'fess up: Who else, when they saw the title of the thread and vpierce's dilemma, thought, "Well, when a mommy goat and a daddy goat love each other very very much...."

No? No one thought that?

Uh...

Me, neither.

Didn't think that Pony, but it reminded me of when we borrowed a friend's buck. The first night he was here, my 13 year old son walked by the goat pen and when he came in the house he asked:

Mom? Why'd you go get that goat and put it in with the girls?
So he can breed Flurry, Brandon.
Thank God! That explains what I just saw out there!

lol
