Alice is right. Horns are not an adequate defense for a lone animal against either a pack, or a *large* predator.
I've seen horned *herds* defend themselves against *small* packs of coyotes or stray dogs.... and it was highly interesting. They formed a circle, with weaker members of the herd in the center...and they did not "charge", like you see them do in their dominance ploys. Instead, they stood their ground and when a coyote came near, they used their horns to "toss" the critter.
In that, they were able to defend themselves until I arrived on the scene. Mainly, they bought time.
But if it had been just one or two animals, the coyotes would have had them before I could get there...no doubts about that. And if it had been a cougar, there is no contest.
Troutriver, I PM'ed you.
