Two pregnant goats, need advice please
We have 2 pregnant goats, not sure on breeding time as they were out in the pasture with 2 bucks (one old and one young buck) They are our neighbors goats which we kinda adopted as no-one was caring for them.
4 days ago, gertrude had a large amount of goo leakage, about 1/4 cup full, since then she has had small amounts of discharge on and off. The ligaments are present, I think... could I be feeling the hip bone? they do feel like pencils that can be moved slightly. Seems to have bagged some, Have placed both pregnant goats in their own enclosure with a birthing stall accessable to them during the day, they are secured in the stall at night. Mollie appears younger than Gertrude, not bagged up as much but is loosing goo and her ligaments seem softer than Gertrude. Any idea when they could deliver? is loosing so much white goo from Gertrude normal and do they always completely lose the ligaments? any advice would be greatly appreciated. Goo is white, stringy, no amber color etc |
update:
Goo has stopped for 2 days, on both goats, felt like the ligaments were very soft this morning, hardened up again, very stresed out (me, not the goats) Tail head raised on one of the goats but she also seems wider today, and higher, I'm so lost
|
probably lost mucus plugs.
babies should arrive any week now. welcome to goats. |
The goo was likely the plug. They can lose that quite some time before actually giving birth. Ligs will be completely gone before they give birth. The babies also usually drop before birth. Meaning they actually look less out to the side and more rounded underneath. Their bag will usually get really full and tight before birth.Ligs do seem to soften and harden again, especially if you haven't lost enough sleep yet.
I say usually on all of this because, goats will change it up on you just to drive you crazy. |
No more advice because they already gave you good advice. Just wanted to say welcome to the forum and to goats.
|
Thank you, love the cute lil things.... but checking them every 2 hours, and keeping them company is driving me nuts lol, bless their hearts... Love gertrude and molly, molly looks like a barrel on sticks lol, maybe when the weather warms up on thursday they'll give me grand babies lol
|
Thanks for your help :) will keep you informed
|
Good advice already given but also wanted to welcome you to the forum & to the wonderful world of goats. We all Love our goats here & always glad to have another goat lover join in.
Keep us updated on your girls & any questions don't hesitate to ask. Pictures are always a good thing too, we love pictures! |
Welcome to our crazy goat world. If we had specific answers for "when will she deliver" we'd be worth a million dollars. :)
Are they digging nests in the bedding? |
LOL, I thought it would be like a dog, textbook, but my girls are soooo different, was just out having coffee with them, gertrude's stomach is quite soft at the top, like a brick underneath, got good udders, Molly is like a tank, not much in the way of udders but solid all over, WISH I knew how far along they were, but with both having goo they should give birth soon i think, no goo leakage in either for 2 days though....
|
Sounds like maybe they passed the mucus plug & if that's what it was they can still go a few weeks.
|
WOW I guess I dont need to check them 5 times a day then lol

There going to decide to have them for sure when it's not the best time for you!

What you really need is to find the Doe's Code of Honor. That's the only manifesto needed.
They DO change things up just because they can. Why just the other day one doe ready to go changed everything in her own book. "Ok this time Im not showing goo. I will not dig to China. I will not bag up looking ready to expode. I will just talk to my babies. Well she thought that was different so she drags me to kidding bldg but my first last laugh was I only had one & she was expecting trips. Now just because I usually give trips she just cant go by that anymore besides, this is MY body! My sister and I had this all planned. Just because she has something called a calender with me marked to go first & my sister second we had to do something! She blew her out of the water with quads after passing this stupid No Quads Law; sister kept number 4 till after she went back to her own barn. Like I said, these are OUR bodies :princess: She's full of goat berries." And another hardy welcome to HT. |
Welcome, welcome! So glad you're here!
Only a quarter cup of goo? Ha! That's a mere trifle! She's playing with your mind, that's all. BWAhahaha! Goats are wonderful, but they do like to have their fun during kidding season... I posted the Doe Code of Honor a couple of weeks back... Hm.... Where was that...? |
|
OMG thats Hilarious!! was dying laughing!! this HAS to go to my goat friends on facebook LOL
Tonight, Gertrude decided not to like me anymore, her bag is full, wont hold her tail up AT ALL, she has ligaments... I think, but I can put my fingers under her tail bone, LOL ideas? Oh Digging ALOT too |
MY idea is that you are in for a long night of checking every couple of hours on a goat.
Digging to China, does the up-n-down (cause she can't get comfortable), full udder, floppy tail.....yeah. Is she panting? That's our sign of soft labor, the doe practicing her Lamaze. |
I'll be thinking of KenandToni (which one of you is posting, btw?) tonight whilst I am doing my two- and one-hour checks...
Oh, the joys of big pregnant goaties! |
I'm Toni :) sent my mum the code of conduct.... funniest was the costume thing lol, I do appologize to my buck daniel for the horn wrmers, leg warmers and coat that he modeled so beautifully for facebook when he was younger LOL

Love the pictures, they are great! No Babies yet?
|
Nope no babies, just checked again, Gertie is still flagging tail, not holding it up at all, can get fingers round base of tail but i think i can still feel ligaments, will continue the watch lol
|
Gertie still same, although I think she has a tick embedded on her butt cheek, wouldn't let me get hold of her hiney to get it though. Molly is limping on her right hind leg, very sunken in near tail bone, slight leakage.
