Just talked to the vet that did the necropsy (who by the way specializes in goats for those that were putting her down - your vet probably gets their goat info from her!) and there was no obvious cause of death. No infection, heart, liver, uterus all looked good. They will be running a few more lab tests, including checking mineral levels.

Maybe she just died of a broken heart. ♥

So, not to belabor this, and my sincerest condolences for your loss and sympathy for all you've been through - but my question is, in the end there never was a large kid? but instead, three premature ones? I worked in the ultrasound field for eight years (in healthcare marketing, not as a technologist) and I'm surprised they were unable to get a clearer understanding. Is it very difficult to do a good diagnostic study on goats, or mammals of this sort or size? I ask because I'm wondering about the efficacy of ultrasound altogether then for mammals of this type.

The window provided by ultrasound is rather small, and just like with humans in late term it is very hard to make out details. My daughter was 10 days over due, and they thought she was going to weigh 2lbs more than she turned out to be. Comparing the ultrasound pictures to the ones of my daughter tells me that they were seeing about the same amount - which unfortunately isn't a whole lot, about a 3"x3" area.

ALL the kids were fairly equal in size and were already in the 3lb range, so size wise they were on the upper end of the normal range, and larger than I have seen multiples be. I have had one pound babies that weren't preemies. They weighed her before and after the c-section and her weight dropped by 15lbs and she hadn't expelled the placenta yet at that point either so she was carrying quite a bit.
