That is not true about C sections and conception. Shahena'ko Bellflower, IIRC, had a C section for nearly every birth. When I saw her last she was 14 or 15 years old and had been producing kids for her entire life.

I have had a couple of does who had C sections and they both conceived again as well.

My daughter and I just found Tsunami dead in her stall. What a horrible no good ending to this story! Our hearts are broken.

That's awful! And one reason why I allow my goats (and myself and any other mother I know) to go into labor naturally! Obviously she wasn't ready and probably would have had perfectly healthy kids on her own if she'd been allowed to do so!

I am so sorry It was horrible all the way around, you are handling it better then I would be, I would be very angry at the vet college.
I hope the rest of your kidding season goes great with lots of healthy kids.

Well, I mean I'm sure the vet didn't just sense that the doe needed intervention. I am wondering why someone who wasn't completely sure that the doe was overdue, would seek out or agree to that kind of intervention.

We knew what date she had been exposed to a buck. And based on that info the c-section was done on day 158 which is way past normal range for a Nigerian. She apparently was bred on the following heat through the fence by a completely different buck, but until the c-section we had no way of knowing that and were working off the best info that we (vets & myself) had.

The ultrasound two days before the c-section showed a very large kid and they had concerns then that she would have problems delivering it and she was dripping goo and showing other signs of being ready to kid, although her ligaments never completely went away. In fact they kept her Friday for 6 hours because they were worried she might kid on the way home. I finally convinced them to let me take her home over the weekend after they had all stayed more than 2 hrs after closing.

I do not fault the vet college at all, they did the best they could with the info they had and both instructors bent over backwards to try to help, us with a very puzzling situation and they will be staying late tonight to get the necropsy done and they will do a panel on her liver for me to check the mineral levels as well - all at no charge.

Very sorry you lost her.

Did they use general anesthesia? I know that is dangerous with goats and they should get a standing c section instead.
