Since she only had two, she may not produce enough for all four. Keep an eye on them, make sure their tummies feel full and they are doing well. If necessary, you can supplement with a bottle. That is great that momma took them in like that.

Argh... what's the boy:girl ratio?

I'd bottlefeed two doelings (the ones I wanted to keep and breed) and let the others suckle the doe.

I would keep real close check to make sure they are getting what they need and don't need supplemented, but yes she can.

3 girls, one boy. They all stayed in the barn last night and everyone is doing great this morning! :-) Looks like Lucky might really be lucky after all!

Minelson 02/01/12 12:20 PM

Great news! Glad it turned out so well :) :)

Great News & I'm so happy for all of you mostly Lucky!!
As your babies get a little bigger your doe may have trouble producing enough milk to feed all 4 babies & that's when you'll most likely ghave to start adding in a few bottle s a day.

So good that your doe will take other does' kids, most of them WON'T do that so she's keeper for sure.
I too have 1 that will let anyone's baby come up for a drink.

I'm also like you in I like my house to be goat free too. So now Lucky has a Goat momma & you have your house back!

Lucky died this morning :-( She had been doing great, eating tons, and always fat, happy, bright eyed, and bushy tailed when I would check on her and the other babies several times a day. Last night when I checked on them everyone was great, this morning when I went out to check she was gone :-(

I am assuming probably complications from having a temp over under 85 degrees when I first found her...poor Lucky.

Oh no! :( I'm sooo sorry :(

Backfourty,MI. 02/07/12 03:12 PM

I am so sorry you lost her, we all know you were doing everything possible. For some reason she just wasn't meant to live like some of the others said. Heartbreaking owning livestock & pets sometimes but it comes with having animals. Hugs Lindsay to you & your human kids, I'm sure they were heartbroken too.
