If you can get her up and she stood a little you are on the right track. Now that she's kidded if you start trying to get her up as much as possible you may have a chance.

Click on this link, then scroll about 3/4 of the way down to Nutritional and Metabolic Supplements. Most of this material is courtesy of Coni Ross. It saved the first doe we kidded out. We didn't know better and did NOT feed property going into their pregnancies (grass hay and high-protein goat pellets don't provide nearly enough calcium) so she went down and stayed down almost three weeks. She went into labor but wasn't strong enough to deliver her kids. We pulled them and kept on treating Kes--less than a day later she was fine.

Funny thing is, she was wild before that and after putting tons of nasty stuff down her throat and sticking her with a needle upteen times, she decided she adored us. She became on of our most affectionate goats.

I hope this helps!

Sue

Using Ketone strips

If you need an easy way to check a doe or ewe's urine for ketones, take this tip from the guys who check race horse urine after races.

Find a nice long stick (ours is an old mop handle) and securely duct tape a clean, empty food can to the end (our is a small-size baked bean can).

Grab your strips and your pee collector and go to where the does or ewes are lying down. Make one or two get up. The rest will get up too and they all pee shortly after they stand.

Hold the can on the stick behind the doe or ewe and catch some pee, then dip and read your tetone strip. Easy peasy!
