We have Beaujest V Bonanza Jelly Bean and we call her "Jelly Belly" or "Belly Bean"!

Helps the breeder remember and other people to see who the parents are. Generally in my herd, the sire's name would be referred to somehow and the dam line had a theme- herbs, flowers, spices, etc. So "Wisdom's Way M Katydid" meant that she was bred by me as she had my herd name, her sire (the M) was Three Rings Magellan and her dam was from my insect line as she was Cricket's daughter. "Wisdom's Way R Junebug" was also out of Cricket, but she was a daughter of Iroquois KC Reflex, thus the R.

When you have 30-40 or more kids born every year, it is possible to forget things such as Katydid and Junebug being half sisters, especially since they looked so different. Names help me to remember, and it also helps potential buyers to see at a glance without looking over the pedigree, who the sire might be and which dam line was used.

I'm starting that with my herd. I have my "money" line, Lucky Penny and Liberty Penny, then the "wind" line, Mariah and Gale Force Winds. The other line ended this year with the death of the original doe, but her daughter I got is Hidden Treasure out of Sapphire. Then the "bird" line, Ravenwing and her son Merlin.

Of course, I don't yell out, "Ozark Jewels T Many Troubles! Poneez Airin' My Troubles! Kalimac Randybuck!" when I want them. I usually say, "Hey! Goats!" or call out "Trub! Airin'! Mac!" (unless I want Agnes or Rosie).
Course when I got one of pony and trubs doelings, I thought pony had already named her Poneez lol. Was happy to find out she hadn't so I registered her with ADGA as Poneez Pretty Pawnee, she is of course pretty and Pawnee fits her so well.
Now Shaq's registered name I had nothing to do with. Bar-k(herd name) Illusion's(sire's name) Shaquille
So if I follow that line all registered kids from him would be
Lovn Ivy farm Shaquille's _______ riiiiight?

Friend of mine breeds paint horses. The assn. doesn't allow the breeders personal names on the pedigree but he found a way around that. His last name is Surrett, but on his horse papers it appears as "Sir Rhett".
