I am no goat expert - which is why I am on this board (LOL) - but I live in the valley area in S. Central AK and I wanted to comment to let you know what squash does well here. Probably does even better in SE. We started ours a little too early indoors, but it grows really well, just make sure you cover it if there is any possibility of a freeze. Haven't tried turnips yet, but I imagine they will do well since root veggies all do pretty well. I am also hoping we can grow at least some of our own feed too. Thanks for the thread.

BTW, for the other guy: the mountain goats live in the higher elevations and therefore have a very different diet than what would be available to him in the SE on an island.

The biggest issue with SE Alaska is that there really isn't a long period of warmth. I looked at the seed company and corn, squash and other warm weather crops need a sustained warm period. I wonder if I grow squash in tires with walls-o-water surrounding them if it would help. Anyone use those?
The other thing is the constant rain and cloud cover. I don't know if they will suffer without sun.
