While I agree you can't fix stupid this needs fixing ASAP. What if a total newbie went in there asking for info, they would get bad advise and possible loose their goats. Glad Alice is going after them.

Yes, when I was looking for a new place to purchase bagged feed, this one store insisted that a pelleted sheep feed would be a great substitute for what I was purchasing at the time. I had to give them a speech on copper & goats & I never went back. This was the owners son.

Off topic kind of but we bought cattle panels 2 weeks ago at TS & the outside attendant insisted we couldn't take them in the pick up truck we had to go get a trailer.

I'm wondering if sending them a few articles, in black & white, would do a better job than a phone call.

Alice will get them & set that store straight!

I don't pay alot of attention to folks like the one you dealt with at the feed store Donna. I feel my goats may be a little spoiled & some a little plump but they look good, are haealthy & what I'm feeding works for me.

I do have folks come to the house & say "Well I don't feed that or do that" or someone maybe at a feed store then I have to listen to my husband tell me later that so & so doesn't feed that. I always say these are not so & so's goats, they are mine!

We bring cattle panels home from the store in our truck, we just put one of those extender thingy's in the hitch. Work's great. They still hang off just a little but we strap them in & it's just fine.

You can just bow the cattle panels up in the bed of the truck.

Alfalfa pellets make them eat more? He might be right (lol). . . my does gobble up every bit of pellets that I put out. . .I do not give it to them free choice because they are all FAT!

Alfalfa pellets = more milk, fat does.

Wow. Just . . . wow. Rude and ignorant to boot.

I guess I'm lucky with my feed stores around here. Both of the ones I use carry goat-specific feeds and minerals, and they don't have the attitude that goats "will eat anything". I've only ever had to take back a bag of feed (gone off in the heat) and they replaced it with no questions asked. They know me by name, and I know them by name. We usually have a good chat when I go, and they've even called or passed on my phone number when they have a customer looking for goats or rabbits!

I did have a vet tell me, when I got my first goats, that goats don't need minerals.

We've brought sixteen foot cattle panels home on top of our minivan That always makes the guys at the store shake their heads, either in amazement or amusement, I'm not sure which.

We have several TSC stores near by. I was in one of them and noticed the goat mineral (solid, in a bucket). The cardboard cover was opened and I noticed that the meneral was moldy. I pointed it out to the clerk. She said "We can't have that". I walked away thinking she was just going to leave it. I went through the sore and when I was done went back to the goat mineral area. Two clerks were there and they were removing the moldy supp. Kinda made me feel good, that they cared enough ot remove it.

I'm trying to figure out what to say on their comment page.... How do we approach this? I am thinking of " ...only have educated people recommend feeds. Personal experience doesn't count when they "loose babies every winter because of snakes" .... Usually I can come up with very tactful ways to say things, but I don't know where to start....

I love the guys at our MFA. They sell me what I ask for, they don't try to tell me what I should or shouldn't do, and they'll do their best to order stuff for me if they don't have it.

My goats may be a bit spoilt as well, but I can honestly say that they look one heckuva lot better than any other herd in this area. My goats are glossy, have good weight on them, and just have that glowing bloom of health.

You don't get that from feeding crummy food or skipping the minerals.

We know some folks who are feeding their dairy goats 2 year old GRASS hay, and they think we're goofy for feeding alfalfa and concentrates. Well, the proof is in the pudding. Their goats look dried up, listless... not happy at all.

Heres the reply I got.

Ms Montgomery

Thank you for the information that you passed on to us concerning the service in our Owasso store. Please accept my apology for any bad information that you may have received from our store personnel. It certainly is not our goal to tell you how to take care of your animals or property. Our goal is to assist you with finding the product that you came in the store to purchase.

I have spoken with the person involved and informed him not to tell people what to do or not to do with their animals. I don't believe this will happen again in the future. I would certainly appreciate the opportunity to take care of your business in the future. If you ever have any issue in one of our stores, please ask for the store manager or give me a call at 405-535-5707. I am always glad to assist.

Thanks

Darrell Dreher
Regional manager
Atwoods

I do plan on calling him also just dont have a phone until the bf gets home from work. I highly doubt he did call him but who knows. Like someone said on here (sorry cant remember who) what if he gives wrong info to a total newbie and they lose their poor goats. Lucky enough for me I know better to listen to one person and I can follow my gut, and if I have questions I ask you guys. Not everyone is lucky enough to know this place is here.

As nice as everyone on this forum is I can not understand these people who are being so horsey about goats. I haven't been on here very much but every time I make a dumb mistake (and I do that a lot since I am just learning!) some one on here takes me by the hand and instructs me in what is correct. I really appreciate y'all. Oh, I forgot, my best friend just got a young doe and a wether (that right?) that has been trained to pack. She and I are looking forward to working with the big fella this spring. Y'all will probably hear from us a lot while we are learning! The lady that had them had to move back to Atlanta and wanted to make sure they went to a good home.
