"Just A Goat"

Sent to me by a friend.

"Just A Goat"
From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just
a goat," or, "that's a lot of money for "just a goat". They don't
understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved
for "just a goat." Some of my proudest moments have come about with
"just a goat." Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a
goat," but I did not once feel slighted. Some of my...... saddest
moments have been brought about by "just a goat," and in those days of
darkness, the gentle touch of "just a goat" gave me comfort and reason
to overcome the day. If you, too, think it's "just a goat," then you
will probably understand phrases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise,"
or "just a promise." "Just a goat" brings into my life the very essence
of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. "Just a goat" brings out
the compassion and patience that make me a better person. Because of
"just a goat" I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to
the future. So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a goat" but an
embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories
of the past, and the pure joy of the moment. "Just a goat" brings out
what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away. I hope that someday they
can understand that it's not "just a goat" but the thing that gives me
humanity and keeps me from being "just a woman." So the next time you
hear the phrase "just a goat" just smile, because they "just" don't
understand.? ~Anonymous..

This really says it all.....

That was wonderful thank you for sharing it. I will have to say I HATE when someone says its just a goat. Or goats will eat anything you are just spoiling them by giving them the best hay out there. I have no idea how many people tell me a goat can eat moldy hay.

"Just a sheep" I get, ha ha, my sheep are like walking plants. My goats? They talk, they love back, they grieve, they entertain. They are pets.

Minelson 10/05/11 03:56 PM

That is really good! Thanks! :)

Hey...my sheep talk, (when they want something) nevermind their just bossing me.
My sheep love, they love grain, and head butts, and neosporin. I personally dont want them to grieve it's a sign of weakness and they will be culled....LOL and I find them very entertaining in a non-dramatic sense, like when a snake, dragonfly, lightning or someone got stuck in a chair that I left in their paddock....LMAO!!!!

Thanks Mpete, give me "just a goat" anyday. I spend more time with them than humans. They make for better company anyway.
Rockytop, how adorable is that?

andabigmac 10/05/11 08:16 PM

Well said. I count my goats among my closest friends.

Rockytopsis that is not "just a goat" that is "just about the cutest thing ever". I want to train my wether now.

Im jealous! I am soo missing my cart! I am having a front axle put on it, it can be pulled be either 1 or 2 goats...

I was hoping everyone would enjoy what I posted. I know that all of us, whether out goats are commercial breeders, milkers or the back yard pets have at one time or other had "that special goat".

Rockytopsis 10/06/11 06:56 AM

We just love our Shaq.
I gave him to my grandson for 4H and he trained him to lead then droopped out of 4H. He was so gentle that 4H continued to use him as an ambassador. He has been in umteen parades, public festivals, and birthday parties. This saturday he will have his USN homemade banner and be at a local festival called Pumpkin Town.
The USN banner is because the USS Wear Reunion will be in town and since DH is 20 year retired Navy I just could not resist.
I will pester you all with pictures next week.

Rockytopsis, that is the cutest thing ever!!

rootsandwings 10/06/11 09:24 AM

guess what I just got for my birthday!

We know a lady who is a portrait artist - my two foundation goats are starting to get a little older, and dh had her do their portrait for me! people keep saying "not the kids. the goats?" but you all will understand.

It's a terrific picture. She interviewed my dd2 and really got their personalities.

beccachow 10/06/11 10:54 AM

Those who say "just a goat" have never been owned by one.

ccfromnc 10/06/11 11:53 AM

I've only had my little herd of "just goats" for a few months but seeing them every morning just makes my day!

HappyFarmer 10/06/11 08:06 PM

Thank you for sharing - I would love to tell the writer what a great job they did. Too bad it's anonymous.

I used to get the "it's just a goat" from a lot of people at work. I think they are realizing they mean as much to me as precious Fido and Skippy - a big improvement considering it's a corporate environment.
