I would get a vet to look at her teeth. It doesn't sound like it's the goats over or under bite that is her problem. She is an old doe & has always done well until the last few months. It sounds & looks like to me that it is the one tooth or teeth that are obviously infected or decaying that is causing her discomfort & not wanting to eat. probly painful unless eating soft foods like the OP said.

As far as the goat, that abscessed tooth needs to be dealt with, and I believe your problem with eating would be solved.

As long as you make it clear it isn't your goat and isn't your pic then- yup. How else do people get opinions on sale animals they are looking at buying?

It's those copyright laws that'll get ya. Posting a LINK to the picture is not a violation of copyright, but posting the actual picture itself is (unless you have permission from the person who owns the picture - usually the photographer).

Websites and/or photos posted online should either carry a disclaimer or a copyright/watermark showing that the photos are protected. Otherwise, it is not considered a violation to post the photos as long as the photographer/owner is named. To post the photos or a link and claim ownership is a violation.

Am I the only one who sees (in my mind's eye, anyway) that nubian wearing lipstick ala Looney Tunes?

Just wanted to say that after 48 days my doe is still not eating or drinking on her own and has to be drenched daily. When she burps I can literally smell infection. When I clean her stall I can smell it too. Her one molar is black. I am so badly wanting to give her penicillin but so scared of a possible reaction. She is no longer even eating the fresh spinach leaves I have been giving her. The bottle of Penicillin says that it must be given in the muscle. Other people tell me to give the first injection sub-q and then orally for 4-9 days. I am so confused and upset by all of this.

Of course the doe is getting worse-her problem hasn't been addressed. You were told with time if this wasn't taken care of it would escalate, and apparently now it has. If she's indeed completely off feed as you are indicating, she will go down quick.
You don't want to give the pen yet she hasn't been to a vet. It's not going to go away except by some miracle. I don't understand why people come on here and ask for advice and not take it, even parts of it, after checking it out your self.
This poor goat is suffering because of inaction. "after 48 days my doe is still not eating or drinking" is a sad statement. As the keeper of your goat, you owe it to her to take some action to make her better. She needs you now.
Sorry for being so blunt but I don't like to see a goat suffer.

Ditto what happyfarmer said.
Vet or bullet- either one is better than what she's been through for the past 48 days.

You simply can not let this continue.........We all had a learning curve getting started with goats, but letting this pain & illness go on isn't right.....She needs a vet to check the tooth.....If you can't afford a vet and don't feel you can fix this, give her relief & put her down.
If you don't do that then you could try antibiotics (SQ or IM, not orally) and get her some banamine (injected at 1cc per 100lbs) for the pain.....At this point I don't know if antibiotics alone will help her, she needs a vet.....
I'm sorry for you & for her, some goat lessons are learned the hard way
Whatever you decide, you must ACT & do something (even if it's putting her to sleep) more than just drenching..
Best of luck...

I agree with what you say. She has stated several times over that there isn't a vet available in her area. Not only that, but this person has been directed over and over again as to what needs to be done with her goat, but states that it cannot be done
While I do have empathy, I feel the worst for this poor goat. If proper medical care cannot be given, and when one is not able to provide care properly for an animal, (goats, whatever), then it's time to reevaluate whether or not it's fair to own animals.
In this situation, I believe, from what's been posted, that this person did try, at first, but after different advise had been given to seek a vet as a vet is the only person at this point that could help & it was not followed through with (according to the posts), then this goat is suffering needlessly. :'(

I agree.
It was also suggested, since a vet is not available in her area, to try to find a knowledgeable goat owner to take a look at her goat, confirm the issue, offer assistance, and advise on how to proceed.
There may even be an HT'er in the area that could evaluate the issue and advise, but still her location is still not known. Yea, all indications point to teeth, but hands-on will tell if other issues are present.
I also feel sorry for the goat.

If you dont own a gun find someone who does. If nothing else slit her throat hard from ear to ear with sharp knife.
To put her down is the kindest thing you can do. It should have been done several weeks ago.
I challenge you to NOT post until you have put her down.
You have followed no advice here from folks who have been at it a whole lot longer than you have.
We all understand the "no vet" thing. HT'rs have offered to come help you but all you do is leave detailed updates and do nothing.
Stop wasting our time.

Actually, stop wasting MY time with garbage posts like yours. Suggesting I "slit her throat hard from ear to ear with sharp knife" is nothing short of sick, twisted and barbaric. Finally, you don't even know me, how much "advice" I've taken or not taken or even how long I have kept goats and thus, have no business judging me.
I think this is a perfect "Ignore User" moment and I shall make good use of it.
