Pony, I find that if you rinse well with cold water first and then wash and sterilize as usual, that the milk stone doesn't build up.
Baking soda is a good idea for removing it though and white vinegar will remove hard water build up on your glass and stainless steel both if you have trouble with that. Just soak in vinegar for a few minutes and it will usually rinse right out. For more stubborn build up (like my shower heads for instance), I'll let things soak in vinegar over night.
