Jill, if we can get a "train" to get them here to MD, I would take them in a heartbeat. They would join the ranks of my spoiled rotten, nothing expected from them, herd.

jill, I feel so bad for you. I pray you find a home for your goats and can keep the horse. Some fights you just can't win and this looks like it might be one of them.

So sorry you're having to deal with this. Sounds like Kitty has a pretty good solution for you, and you can go visit them too. I understand not having the energy to fight it at this time. Stinks muchly but you have to take care of yourself first.

First thing is if I purchase a property. ONLY GOD will tell me what I can do with that piece of property and what animals I can have and such.

Don't buy these types of property and you won't have to deal with these ignorant, tyrannical people.

Wonder if the neighbors might feel ashamed if they found out they were persecuting a vet with PTSD. Of course, some people don't care, regardless. But honestly I bet a fair share of busybodies would be extremely embarrassed by their own behavior. Not that you want to play that card, but I bet people who know you do.

Sounds like this is not a totally lost cause... only that you might be willing to fold... hope you resolve things soon. Nasty, NASTY neighbor!

Anybody around there that owns animals you can get on your side. If you can get a bunch together go talk to the city attorney, Go to the council meetings and talk. How long have you had them. If you have had them long time then you have an argument. See if you can find a code violation on the complainer. Always good for a compromise. Maybe they are in tight with someone in the city. Call them out.
I was one of those nasty guys that ran one of those depts in another life. I tried to work with people But your gonna have to play dirty. Something the whole country is going to have to figure out.

Easier said than done, especially when the tyrants lie to you and don't tell you the info you need to make that decision. Be prepared to do a lot of research before you sign your name on that dotted line and never believe anything the tyrants or code officials tell you.

I had a very cordial and hopeful talk with the LADY who is the boss over there! She listened and sympathized with me, and also seemed embarrassed that the complaint did indeed turn out to be a "retaliation" complaint with no real basis. The neighbor that I had the "hunch" was the complainant was the neighbor that we had to call the police on the fourth of July for throwing firecrackers at our fencline to make the horses run and then laughing about it. Fireworks are illeagal inside the city limits. We had gone over there to ASK them to PLEASE stop because our horses were terrified and when they laughed and refused, my BF said, "well, fireworks are not just WRONG when used to terrify poor animals; they also happen to be illeagal! Stop or we'll call the police!". Well, they were so drunk and rude, they cussed us out and the police did end up talking to them and I believe they did get a ticket. A few days later, the horrible man was teasing our dogs, and when I went out to yell at him, he said I could yell all I wanted because "I would "get mine [yours] someday."". We kept the dogs in for weeks after that, because we thought he would toss some poisoned meat into their yard or something, but nothing ever came of it **we thought**......

So, after a long and friendly conversation, the boss lady at the code office said she had NO PROBLEM with me keeping as many as FOUR horses!!! But that she would need to talk over the goats with a few of her colleagues..... she will get back to me with the verdict in a few days.

AuntKitty: GOD bless you and KEEP you; I am overwhelmed with relief and weak with gratitude from your loving offer! You sound like the perfect, caring home where I would feel utterly thrilled to have my goaties in your care. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, truely. If the boss lady just can't see her way clear to allow anything but horses from this point on, I will take you up on your offer. The weight your kindness has lifted from my mind and heart is immense. I am so humbled.

I sorry about your situation. We use to depend on our neighbors and they on us. I think God liked it that way. I have neighbors that threatened to shot my dog for running to the fence and barking at him. Big scary Red retriever just might have licked him into a state of civility. I have considered fencing a 12' run, the length of my property, and investing in the stinkiest billy goat money can buy. You could get two!

Anychance you can get a really high and thick fence up between you and the bad neighbors?

Please keep a file folder with all these "contact" moments so that you have an actual case if they do something truly nasty!!!

You're welcome, Jill. Its just the neighborly thing to do. I know how I would feel if I were in your shoes. Keep me posted - the offer is always open. Good luck with the boss lady.

You two have me crying now. I am so glad that Jill's goats will have a wonderful home no matter what the outcome is.

I hate petty people like your neighbors. Got one of those myself (the other one just lost their home so they are no longer neighbors). God will even it out, I believe that in my heart.

I'm glad you are making progress with them, keep at it.
Ocala is close to my neck of the woods, originally.
It has always been rural and definitely horse country.
My recommendation is to always fight tooth and nail, but I understand that everlasting vigilance takes its toll.
Stern resistance has its rewards.

ive got fingers and toes crossed here for you.

make sure to get anything the bos lady says in writing so if somehting does happen you have it with her contact information too.
id also be investing in extra high perimeter fencing and security cameras...
when things dont go their way who knows what the neighbors are going to try next.

if it where me I'd go talk to the neighbors and inform them since someone complained and you can not keep the animals you want that you will be starting to garden and that you will be constructing you very large as in forerunner large compost piles along the property line. you already have a agreement with the local pig farm and poultry ranch and will start receiving 40 yard dumps of fresh manure as soon as the animals are re homed. you are just informing them so as they may make appropriate plans for any outdoor activity's prior to delivery as it will be ripe for a little while. if they need any compost for their gardens they can help turn the piles weekly and you will be willing to share.

There is a special place in hell for people like your neighbors..you stopped them from tormenting your animals so now they attack you.

Once your animals are safe I do believe it would be wonderful therapy for you to indulge in the fantasy of methods to exact REVENGE on these cretans. If you can come up with a fool proof(can't come back to bite your butt) plan don't tell us...just go for it!

Prayers that you get to keep all your animals. Then get a nice stinky buck to put next to the fence or peafowl or something really annoying. How about a donkey?

You will probably want to get a camera or two pointed at that side of your property just in case.
