I have to chime in here on the breeding-through-the-fence thing. Yes, they can. Some years back I visited a breeder in the winter to purchase two does from her. Since this was in Vermont, all her goats were in the very nice, well-built barn. The senior buck had a large pen right next to the does. His pen was built of solid boards from floor to ceiling, so there was no way he could get out, but there were one-inch gaps between the boards. One of the does I bought was the product of a through-the-one-inch-gap breeding!

Post a picture of a goat breeding through a fence. If it happens as often as online goat people say it does, surely someone has witnessed it.

I never saw a goat do it thru a fence but I put up a chain link fence for the sole reason to prevent puppies. I caught my dog "entertaining" the neighbors dog on the the fence line. I was not happy but I did not have a camera on me. Now, personally I find goats seem to have a MUCH higher desire than any dog I have ever had so That is why my buck lives in his own barn with a small very high window. He has a pet (what ever buck that we plan on eating next) and only is out when we want to breed him. I wish that there was birth control for goats.

Well now i got bad news my buck got out with his does. ERRRRR My only hope is he was 2 short to get anywhere. As determined as he is to get to does i might have to get rid of him. Do bucks when housed with other bucks or beside act out more? As in trying to brake out? He was acting normal a week ago then this new black buck came and he has been trying to get to any goat he can. This is my second buck first one never acted like this. My sister has a dog kennel im going tonight to get it. Might be his new home hate to pen him in something so small. But since he is tiny he sould be fine. Just like a jail cell.
Dont worry i plan on going and letting him know my buck got out and ask him if he wants me to pay for luting. And apologize to him the best i can.

He probly wasn't acting out because of the new buck but probly the neighbors does' came in heat & he was able to get & out & get to them so he did! That sounds like something all bucks will do if they can.
I hope everything works out with the neighbor & the fencing issues can be resolved where your both happy.

[QUOTE=houndlover;5339733]They won't breed through the fence. People swear all the time that happens.. it doesn't.

I have to respectfully disagree. I have several cases between my friends and myself where it did happen with 100% certainty. I have now put a double fence between the buck and doe area and no more "fence" breedings have occurred. Now they just get loose and go shack up with the does. Pains in the
