I always get ignored with this suggestion as I have many times here before. However, I'll put my two cents in again. Try feeding your goat, (no matter what the breed) some baking soda in their feed and see what happens.

Oh, I've tried baking soda. They also chow down on it free choice.

It's an option, but dad's not as pleased with the 'money pits' as I am... hehe. Plus, being disease tested they're worth exponentially more to me than most of the local herds because they're often not tested. If I can find some disease tested LaManchas locally...

The only thing that has ever caused my goats to have bitter milk is eating ragweed.

They were on a soy free food, now are on a feed with soy - no difference.

I had this problem for awhile last year. I have nubian and alpines. I mix the milk when I milk. I found out the problem was two fold.
First, the fridge was dying and old and not cold enough (and it took me awhile to figure that out)
Second, the milk wasn't cold enough from the start. I have started putting in a frozen water bottle (wash & sterilze after every use, refreeze) and got a new fridge.
I have been amazed that my milk lasts for a couple of weeks now. Also - when I have the kids wash dishes (no dishwasher) I found that a small amount of soap and/or milk residue is left in the jars and then you get that yucky taste again. I am now the only one washing milk equipment.

Of course I think we are much warmer here than you are, but putting that frozen bottle in there and getting the new colder fridge made a huge difference.

Good luck, hope you make progress some way or another!

Ok, I'm battling the same problem w/ funky milk. My oberhasli doe freshens (this year and last year) with delicious milk...I'd drink it all day long if I could. Then after a couple months it starts getting funky. Staph test showed "scant" amount in one half, but after treatement for staph it still tasted off. I thought it was too much pasture, but after this drought there is little pasture left so I'm feeding hay and still funky milk. I'll try cooling it quicker, and check the fridge temp just in case.

Mamajohnson, what kind of bottle to you use to chill? It seems to me like it would be impossible to properly sanitize a pop bottle, what with small scratches, the cap, etc. It could easily seem clean but I would worry it would still be dirty. I've thought about using a bottle in the milk and how much easier it would be to chill.

Honestly, though, I think I'm going to keep pasteurizing. Even chilling quickly and putting in the REALLY cold fridge still tasted bad after 6 days... who knows when it 'turned' though.

The pasteurized milk from 7/29 is still absolutely wonderful.
