I'd love to get last year's hay for $5. I just paid $7/bale and felt lucky.

Here in Iowa we had a late first cutting and who knows about a 2nd cutting. I'm lucky that I helped a friend bale his so I got a good price. $3.50 a bale is good by me. I put up a couple hundred bales and locked in at least 50 more at that price.

We have hay here in NW MO, between $3 and $3.50 a bale for alfalfa mix (unless you go to this one guy who grows for picky horse owners, and he gets over $5 a small bale).

That reminds me that I need to contact the gal up the road to get some hay in this week.

We feed alfalfa pellets in addition to hay, and are pleased with the results.

Ive been looking at the CL Adds in my area as soon as hay is listed it is gone and sells for on average $4 a small bale the large bales look like there averaging of at $45 dollars. Going south of me is no hay and if it does get listed its over $5. But if i can travel north 2 hours i can get it for $3 a bale.
Both guys i talked to the other day did not have any extra hay. So today im going and buying some prairie hay from a feed store for $5 a bale at least this hay is fresh. I really hope next yr is better i had wanted to experiment and buy a couple of different kinds and let my goats tell me which one they liked.
