All of you advisers are so fiscally wise and diplomatic-I think you should go to DC and help congress figure out how to fix this spending/debt mess.

Something to think about -
Is she a member of ADGA? If people want them registered (sometimes more $$) you can get permission from her to sign her papers to get them registered and transfered.

See if that satisfies her. I think it would be fair. If you don't do that, then she will have to sell them all herself and hire someone to care for them in the meantime.

This is what I would do. You're taking on a huge chore for her, I don't think you should be out $$ on top of all the care & possibility of dealing with buyers as well.
I would put everything in writing, find out what price she's willing to settle on for the ones you don't keep & outline who is responsible for advertising & dealing with buyers. I would also include a clause as to who is responsible for injuries, losses & vet bills while they are in your care. I mean seriously......what if they all ended up with puemonia or something....it needs to be in writing, before they are at your house, who is financially liable.
Best way to add strife to an otherwise good friendship is by tossing in business without a clear plan or contract..
Saw it alot in the dog world.....which is why I have a dog named "Karma" as karma sure did bite this breeder in the backside when she started making unreal demands of me that were not in the contract I was so thankful to have Oddly, the breeder didn't find the name I chose for the puppy as funny as I did

I told her August 1st was the earliest I could take them. She was in surgery all day yesterday, I haven't heard back yet. She is on all kinds of pain meds and really not in the state of mind to be dealing with business and money if you know what I mean... but I really hope we can figure this out. For all I know, a trailer is going to show up at the farm on Monday with 8 goats and I will have to figure out what to do with them.

I'm sending you a private message. Do you know how to check those? Upper right hand corner of the page.

Just got an email from her saying only "did you get the goats yet?"
I responded saying I have no way to transport them (which I have already said) and that I have been waiting for her response before I do anything.
EDIT: just went outside to double check that there weren't 15 goats in my backyard

OH BOY. Just got another email from her (I told her to call my cell phone when she had a chance, but alas...)
Apparently, her HUMAN "girls" (children) are in Dover NY for the week. All of her goats are girls, and we were talking about the goats, so when she said her girls were going to Dover where someone was going to take care of them for the week, I assumed she meant her GOATS The GOATS are still in her barn right down the street from me!
So I get this email, FREAK OUT, get in my car and drive to her house assuming that no one has fed or milked her goats for 3 days! I get there, and they are fine. Hay in the hopper, water in the buckets, udders not full, empty grain bag on the floor. I really have no idea what is going on at this point.

LOL, I feel your pain and confusion. Recently, I've begun to refer to young homo sapiens as "human children" and reserve "kids" for the goat kind.

[QUOTE=TroutRiver;5287472]crazygoatgal, I am in Wells, at the Larson Farm (larsonfarmvt.com). I will definitely give you a call as soon as I have them, which will probably be August 1st. Thanks!
Definitely, call me. I expect you are about 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours from me. Would love to help in any way I can. There aren't too many of us in Vermont so it would be great to get dialed in with others as crazy as ourselves. I live by Jay Peak. You are probably around exit 17 or so on I91. Thats Wells River, I know you are not there but is it close? It would be nice to be on the giving end of help for a change. Take care. Lynn

Skimming down-
Goat ladies all-
I must have missed the "Don't take all those goats" post.
*BIG GRINNY THINGY*
"you start with one and end up with 20" jargon you all post, and I've been like "oh, that won't happen to me" How did this happen?
^^^This.
When someone has an answer to this
tell me.
I have 18.
WHAT????
And only a few are eaters.
Sheesh.
TroutRiver,
just suck it up.
Welcome to goats.

Yes. I'm not sure what I've gotten myself into, but I still like them better than cows.

Yup. Goats - even my big Nubians - I can handle.
A 700 pound Jersey? Don't tell me how sweet and malleable they are. SEVEN HUNDRED POUNDS????
Gimme goats that I can body slam when necessary.

She should be paying you to take them.
Especially if they are nubians.

While I haven't seen the goats, know nothing of the pedigrees and udders. . .
I raise Nubians and believe me, have NEVER had to pay anyone to take them - lol.
Geez.
Anyway. . .take them - sell what you don't want and give her the money minus gas. . .

It's not their size, I have been working with horses for as long as I can remember. It's their brains (or lack thereof). If I can spend 5 minutes yelling, jumping up and down and literally beating a cow, and it doesn't move an inch, just looks at me with a blank stare, that tells me it's either so dumb that it honestly doesn't realize that I'm asking it to move, or it does know, it just doesn't care. Either way, no thanks.

Thank you, Creamers. Nubians I am proud of mine and their lines, and no, I've never had to pay anyone to remove them from the premises.
