Looking for Nubian herdsire in Oh, WV, Ky or ? ? ?

I'm considering adding another buck/buckling to the herd -
Only considering a buck with a lot of milk in the background and very correct, overall. . .
Obviously from a tested herd -
PM me ;)
I'm in the tristate area of WV, Ky and Ohio and willing
to drive a day trip to get what I'm looking for

Would love to keep Roman's line going. I have his son out of our Lady Alginon (Fra-Jac line); and Roman is up in years now (over 12 yrs old). Roman is about 250 lbs of sweetness and he is the one shown in my avatar this forum.

We picked "Chateau Briant So-Gay Roman" up in 1999. He had been bottle fed from birth and we brought him home in a cardboard box. He slept with me the first 3 days at our place, only going out to the herd during the day when I could watch him. Then we started letting him stay in the small pen "inside" the barn at night where he could see the herd yet not be a part of it for awhile. He started running with the herd within a month and has always been sweet and gentile.

His sire = AI GCH++*B Kismet Marvin's Smooth Operator (whose sire was "GCH ++*Hallcienda Frosty Marvin; whose dam was "GCH2*M Kismet Hero's Nutmeg)

His dam = GCH 4*M Chateau Briant's Gayleen (whose sire was AI+*B Chateau Briant's Domino; whose dam was AI GCH3*M Chateau Briant's Pastel Gold)

I use to keep my herd tested; but never found anything wrong with it so stopped a few years back. (I never was able to get any sperm collected as just didn't have access to proper equipment.) At this time he has bred all 3 of my does (all from the "Chribrydon" herd in Virginia).

anyone out there? lol

CaliannG 07/02/11 02:35 PM

~chuckles~ PLENTY of what you want down here, dear....but I think I'd have a bit of trouble e-mailing one to you.

Perhaps you need to widen your circle a bit? For the right price/lines, would you be willing to drive a full day, overnight in a hotel, and drive back the next day...making it a kinda two day trip?

CaliannG 07/02/11 02:40 PM

~ponders~ If you were to drive directly there, get a buck, spend only a 1/2 hour chatting and loading, and drive directly back, you could do St. Louis MO in 18 hours, there and back.

if you are willing to drive all the way out, spend a night in a motel, pick up your buck and drive all the way back, you could go to West Kansas.

Creamers 07/02/11 05:11 PM

We can't do more than 12 hours round trip because of milking, feeding and such - we have no one to make the trip for us or to milk while we are gone.

motdaugrnds 07/02/11 07:36 PM

ROFL Reminds me of when I picked our herd buck, Roman, up in the state of Maine. We literally drove full-time, round-trip & non-stop from Virginia to and from Maine to get him. It was a tiring trip; but what he has given us since has been well worth it.

Creamers 07/02/11 07:52 PM

I think we might have found a great choice - pending a few things - will update soon!

PMcNemar 07/02/11 08:35 PM

They're about a 3 hour one way trip for you.

Creamers 07/02/11 08:59 PM

I talk to the girl who own CLN often. She has a nice herd, too!
I've just decided to try to get genetics we don't see around here -
otherwise, I'd be certain to buy one of her bucklings. I'd already talked
to her about buying until I debated the whole purchase idea over and decided
to go another direction.

CaliannG 07/02/11 11:41 PM

Creamers, have you PMed Roseanna? She is in Ohio and she has 65 mostly dairy bucklings...and she does Nubians.

Creamers 07/02/11 11:49 PM

I've talked to her in the past about seeing the herd, but she said that mostly the herd is oriented, I think, to production more than type, which I like production, too - lol.
I am talking to Susanne at Ain Ash Shams - hoping I can get the buckling she has for sale!

I've got a really nice doe (Giada) whose sire is closely related to your buck Roman... Giada's dam is a Longman doe, but her sire is CHATEAU BRIANT'S GIUSEPPE (Smooth Operator bred to a Gayleen daughter, GCH CHATEAU*BRIANT'S R GRACIE (Gracie's sire was KASTDEMUR'S ROYAL LEGACY).... Giada is a big red roan doe, with lots of white.. she has a socked on udder and is a sweetheart.. I really love the Chateau Briant's nubians) thinking about breeding her to our new jr. herd sire .. (might have to build him a step stool LOL.. .but I think she & Edge would make some really lovely babies)

The biggest issue at the moment is that I have had exactly one registered Purebred Nubian buckling born to my herd to date. He would not do well for what they are looking for though.
I am excited to see what my Polled Purebred Nubian does produce this coming year though with my new genetics or even with Kieran. I have orders for the first two Purebred Polled bucklings to hit the ground. One to Kansas and the other to Michigan. Go figure my Purebred Nubian doe produced twin doelings this year (one polled).
I have a nice Polled American Nubian buckling, but again, that American issue. lol
He may stay or he may go. Since most of my stock is recorded grades or American, doesn't hurt me to use a nice American buckling to keep the Polled genetics thriving in the herd.
I am liking the udders from Rudy, especially with more lactations on them, and I really like Kieran's udders. Now to get the rest of the package looking better. Kieran is doing a nice job with that I hope my new bucklings will only further it.
We've been breeding goats for over a decade, but it is only recently that I have been working on trying to set and correct looks without losing milkability, which is my focus.

Ooo, she has some lovely nubians :) I hoped to get a doeling from her this year but alas it wasn't born.

Wow, I'm jealous!!

Creamers 07/03/11 01:53 PM

I can't wait - truly!

dosthouhavemilk 07/03/11 03:15 PM

That is going to be one heck of a drive!
When I drove up to Lisa's to get my Achilles, it was 8 hours one way for me...
It is 6 hours from here to Ann Arbor.

Looks like Mary at Bryson Branch has a nice buckling that may have fit your bill-
Buck 2. Born 4/27/11.

Dam: Saada Black Walnut
Sire: Hoanbu KFE Thunderstruck
DD: Saada Forest Frau
DS: Saada King's X (Kastdemur's King of the Hill X Saada Lemon Xanado
SD: SG Hoanba Exod Summber Secret
SS: GCH Kastdemur's Free and Easy

$175.00 with papers, will sell at $150.00 with no registration.

Definitely wish I was not so buck poor at the moment. I could almost talk dad into letting me get him if I had not already purchased two new Purebred Nubian bucklings this spring...lol

Congrats on the new addition! If you are going past, you are welcome to stop....lol
You're more likely to be going past KimM's place though assuming you'll take I-77 North. I'm a half hour from I-77.

susanne 07/03/11 03:15 PM

creamers if he does in your herd what his maternal half brother khair did here, you will be very very happy ;)

Creamers 07/03/11 07:03 PM

I think I'll be very happy with him :)

Creamers 07/03/11 07:04 PM

I think I'll meet Susanne in Ohio - so Roseanna and KimM - I would love to meet you all along the way.

Cannon_Farms 07/03/11 08:39 PM

Google Cams Menagerie hes got a couple bucklings, though he does not have a website you can well see what he produces, and since he goes all over the country collecting semen you can bet hes got the best there is to get. Plus you could get my Nigerian buck as well:rock:

I do plan on if no one is pregnant when i pull blood in two weeks to have him AI all my Nubians instead of buying any more does just rolling the dice on that.

rootsandwings 07/04/11 08:05 AM

Doustthouhavemilk,

Where did you get that info? I can't find him on her site? (still kicking around the get-a-new-buck plan this year...)

Creamers 07/04/11 10:54 AM

I didn't see him on there - possibly on craiglist?

dosthouhavemilk 07/04/11 12:28 PM

It was posted on goatsohio Yahoo! Group and NubianTalk Yahoo! Group.
Mary hasn't always kept her website as up to date as some. More than others, but she definitely posts goats for sale on those groups.

CaliannG 07/04/11 02:56 PM

W00T! Congrats Creamers!

rootsandwings 07/04/11 06:14 PM

Hmm,

How much mail is involved in these yahoo groups of which I have just heard?

And appologies to creamers for the thread hijack.

freedomfrom4 07/04/11 06:56 PM

The Yahoo groups are set up so that you get every message that comes through or none of the messages and then you just go to the group and read them.

dosthouhavemilk 07/04/11 07:06 PM

You can have it set up for individual mail (each e-mail sent to the group shows up in your inbox); daily digest (up to 25 emails sent to the group are sent to your inbox in one long email; no mail (no emails are sent and you just go to the group homepage to read) and Special notices (basically no mail, but when the owners/moderators have a special message for all the members of the group, that email will show up in your inbox.
NubianTalk is very active and it is set for emails to go to the person who made the post, rather than to the entire group. Most groups I am on if you respond to an email it goes to everyone in the group unless you specify it not to.
goatsohio will usually have at least one Digest sent a day, but usually only a handful of emails.
I am a member of over 40 Yahoo! Groups. All but one I am on Daily Digest. The one I co-own/co-moderate I have on individual emails. With the Daily Digests, I look at the topics/subjects listed at the top of the email. Mine is set up so I can click on any that interest me and it jumps to that section. I can also immediately dismiss/delete/move on if nothing in the topics/subjects of that digest interest me.

freedomfrom4 07/04/11 10:28 PM

You get 40 DD a day? uugh

dosthouhavemilk 07/05/11 09:39 AM

Not all the Groups I am on actually have posts each day. lol
I probably get around 15-20 DDs a day. Some are deleted without opening. I do have some groups on Special Notice only. About a third are sales groups so I scan the list and then delete. It is as much to try and track prices as anything. Also see what is out there.
There are two groups I may get two or three DDs a ay from- NubianTalk and The_Boer_Goat group. That second one just ticks me off on a regular bassis though.
