Not sure about the swelling. Listo and polio don't cause swelling either, so maybe that was also because she was shutting down.

And yep - moldy hay leads to listo. Moldy hay could also screw up the rumen, thus leading to enterotoxemia as well.... Dx is tough, especially when you couldn't see what worked to fix them.

Perhaps next time you could do an autopsy to see if you can learn anything that way. (I know it is tough to do, but it can be a valuable tool).

Well...my bad day turned much worse. We had to euthanize our 4 day old alpaca cria tonight . I did talk to the vet a little bit about the goat that died this morning and she said it was probably polio as well based on the symptoms I described. She also said with her temp being so low that it was probably too late to try and save her even if I had gotten the thiamine.
