I second the Max-E-Glo stabilized rice bran. I LOVE that stuff!

My favorite doe was putting everything into the milk pail and was starting to get skinnier then I like to see. I was trying everything to keep weight on her, dewormed, treated for cocci, gave Vit B to stimulate appeatite, free choice alfalfa, dairy grain, etc. She was still not gaining until I found the stabilized rice bran. The rice bran has been putting weight back on her nicely and added a nice shine to her coat as well. I could not be happier with it. She is getting two cups a day, one per feeding. As a tip, I have found that she eats it much better if I add a small amount of water until I can form it into clumps.

Ugh on the price of BOSS. I do not feed it anymore because it is just too expensive and the price tends to jump all over the board so you never know what you will be spending on it.

the bran I use to make bread mostly, muffins, etc., pancakes. the stuff in the store is 3-4bucks for a piddly little box, and i got this bag, tried and we haven't suffered! put a few buckets full to leave in the barn, then bag up several freezer bags for the house.

the one doe that really needs it refused it. i wonder if a bit of apple juice or something would help? i'll try adding water first, i'd love to see her eat up!

The first year we grew them we did this by hand. Just raking your thumb over the heads will loosen the seeds and cause them to drop out. However, after about 30 heads my thumbs were torn up and really sore. That is when we dried and saved the whole head. Wasn't worth the time to de-seed the heads and was really painful too. Blessings, Kat

We tried rice bran... They hated it and wouldn't touch the feed. None of them.

With heads I have saved in the past, once you let the whole head dry completely, you can break the head up a little bit and most of the seeds will fall out pretty easily. You just have to wait until everything is completely dried out first.

Tell me about it... I just paid $4.00 for a 5lb bag! Good thing I don't need very much of it!
