Don't know about rabies, but if it turns out to be an infection (like listeriosis) symptoms will certainly wax and wane if you don't keep up with the antibiotics. It's often a gambol on what to do. I think I'd keep up with a full course of antibiotics, especially since you started them.

I think rabies can wax and wane but tell the vet she is swallowing. Rabies paralyzes the throat muscles, so really hoping it's something else because you said she is able to swallow. Good luck!!

We took her to a new vet and he diagnosed her with Listeriosis. He was impressed with our management so far not dehydrated etc but the reality is she is not likely to recover. We are continuing to try though .... Tonight she is not looking good and the dd who owns her won't be home until tomorrow morning I hope it is not to late. We just keep praying for a good outcome. - Annie

I just wanted to say thank you to all who helped with advice and prayers. Today Clover is up and about eating hay, grain and drinking on her own. She still has a slight left lean but appears to be recovering rapidly. What a week it has been!!! Thank you!!!-Annie
