Prolapsed Doe Update
We were woken up last night around midnight by the sound of baaing. My DH went outside with his light to check, he came back in a few minutes later...
"Her insides are completely out of her..." I grabbed my light, shoes, went outside. She was laying on the ground. About 8 to 10 inches of her intestines were on the ground behind her. She was dying. There was nothing we could do. We had to put her down. It was quick, she didn't suffer. My poor precious Pounce... There was a fleeting thought to attempt a c-section and save the kids but neither one of us was prepared for that. I miss her terribly, I haven't slept all night. This is the first time I'm crying about it. I was blessed to have her in my life. I am blessed that it happened in the middle of the night while all of our 6 precious children were fast asleep. She was a lady to the end... I hope that this is one of the worst things we will have to go through. Thank you everyone who was following our story and to everyone's advice and support. |
 I am so very sorry :( What an awful tragedy for you :(
(((((Big hugs))))) I'm sure you just feel terrible. |
Oh! I'm sooooo sorry!!!
You should call that "Vet" and let him know what his ignorance cost.... |

How awful to have to deal with that..and to have a vet that really didn't help.
I'm so sorry for your loss. :( |
:( So terribly sorry. Good for you guys for being able to act fast so that she did not have to suffer. :(
|
Ahh jeez honey I'm so sorry, I was hoping all would be fine, my heart goes out to you. I was following your other thread, I read over here because I love goats, but don't have any because the learning curve with them is very sharp and often painful, they can seem so tough yet are so fragile. I'm very glad your children were asleep, and once again I'm so sorry ((((((hugs))))))))
|
Oh, I am so, so sorry. :( At least you can have peace in the fact that she is no longer suffering. You did the right thing.
|
I am so very sorry for your loss! What a terrible thing to have to witness as go through. Thank goodness all your children were sleeping but still what a horrible loss!
Sending hugs for all of you! I am so disgusted & angry with your vet I'm glad I don't know who it is I'd probly call him myself. |
I am so sorry for your loss. (((hugs)))

|
I am SO SORRY!!! This farm thing can really suck sometimes. At least you know that you did everything you could - including the ability to put her down when you knew that that was best.
|

Oh I am so sorry. But I am mad at that vet. I would call him and tell him that off. But you did the right thing by putting her down.
|
I'm very sorry for your loss :(
|
I am so sorry for loss. I was following your other thread. I stand by the posts on the other thread where people were saying the vet should be tarred and feather.
|
I'm so sorry to hear this. Poor girl. Dan m vet
Huggs to you HF |
Gosh, sorry to hear about this. I too was following this story. Sounds like you've got a real piece of 'work' for a vet (and I use that term very lightly)!
You did right putting the animal down. Speaking for myself, I would have probably gone for the C-section (and then processed the rest of the animal thereafter). Nothing to lose at that point and everything to gain (depending on how far along, pregnancy wise, she was). Might have been labor that caused it. Not being critical (well maybe a little) and perhaps I missed it, but may I inquire as to why you didn't find a qualified vet after the first one proved to be completely devoid of any veterenary skills? It seems like several days elapsed. Had that been one of our cows I would have already been planning on a C-section for the calf after the very first incident and prossibly even processing for the cow shortly afterward. It would have only been a matter of time getting it scheduled with the vet (i.e. that night or the next morning). |
I'm so sorry. :(
|
I'm sorry you went through this.
|
What a nightmare. I'm sorry you have gone through all of this.
|
{{{Hugs}}}
I had watched the other thread until after the vet said to wait. I am so sorry to hear this. It is so so very hard to lose them - I still miss the girl we lost in February to a similar situation. The pain will become less intense & less frequent, but it will always ever hurt. If it helps, we have had goats for 3 years and only lost one doe & one baby. You are in our prayers. |
I'm sorry for your loss:(
|
 Oh dear. I'm very sorry...
Well, I suppose this confirms that her uterus was not coming out the wrong end. |
I'm sorry.
|
I am so sorry for your loss. You tried so hard to do the right thing for her, I too put a lot of the blame on that ignorant excuse for a vet. Remember, sometimes the kindest thing we can do for an animal is to end the pain. <<Hugs>> and know she and her kid(s) are watching you from Heaven now.
|
Awww that is so darn sad! We all so hoped for a good outcome. I'm so very sorry.
