I am in the same boat...to the point where it really has put stress on our marriage in the past. And it doesn't help that Gretta will go after him sometimes. It took me a while to catch on to the seriousness of the situation. So I am just very vigilant with trying to keep them out of trouble with his stuff. The problem is that my hubby finds it impossible to pick up after himself, leaves stuff laying around. Also, completely impossible for him to close a door or gate behind him. So we try to compromise...like I don't complain about the doors and gates anymore, I make sure to check things after him. I lock up the goats if he is working on a project...or just make sure they are on the other side of the property. If he pulls in the driveway and doesn't put the car in the garage, I will go out and do it. We haven't had an incident in quite some time so it's much better now. It just took awhile to catch on to how quickly the goats can cause a problem.

Mine have eaten all the bicycle seats off the kids' bikes. They've climbed not ON cars, because we have raved about how we "taught them not to do that", only to have them get INSIDE of a visitors car (don't leave your windows down on a farm, sheesh). When we got our first goats, they disappeared one day. Went visiting down the road. Ignored the first 5 or 6 homes, and attacked the ONE house with extensive gardens and ate a $100 rose bush. They had to pass about 1/2 a mile of blackberry bushes to feast on that.

What's wrong with my goats? Or maybe I'm not giving them enough freedom to explore and become their own goats?

The most trouble mine get into is when they find a weak spot in the fence and show up on the back porch.

Well, I started out the back door to visit the garden when there laying sound asleep on the back porch was "Bliss" (one of our 3 yr old dams) with her little doe ("Faith") beside her chewing the cud. Bliss was on the dog bed! (Where is my camera when I need it?)

My goats don't have much incentive to get out. If they get out of their safety zone they get those white buckets hurled towards them and they lickety split it back to the safe zone and their smorgasbord. I have never hit them with a bucket. I have some plants that could poison them like irises so I take them getting out very seriously.
