How are the buckie LaFreak kids for eating? What about LaMancha does bred to a Boer? Do they make meatier kids than Nubian/Boer, or about the same?

ROFL! The place I got my two Nubians had one other Nubian, lots of Boers and several LaManchas. I've known the owners for years and, truly, the first time I saw the LaManchas I wondered what horrible disease had run through their herd that so many had lost their ears...

I still prefer the Nubians (my two aren't snooty - they're lovers), but I can see where the LaManchas have a ton of personality! (I also think the no-ears thing grows on you.)

Ah, yes. I have had to actually screw the feed pan down to the wood of the stand because if I left her sight, not only would she holler, but she'd flip the feed out onto the ground.
Yes, its certainly NOt real Lamancha ears.LOL!!

My Nubians are great, but the Lamanchas are less.....I don't know...needy??

It's not photoshopped. It's costume ears. It doesn't hurt the breed. If someone doesn't like the ears then they should just stick to eared breeds. I needed a quiet breed where I live and they are quiet. They are more prone to ear infections and need their ears cleaned regularly since the wax doesn't come out normally as a goat with large ear canals. Some don't produce any wax at all, the gopher ears I've noticed. In mine the wax can build up to the point of affecting the hearing in the elf earred ones. One was acting totally deaf till I cleaned the ears. Otherwise they are a great breed.

I must warn you that if you insist on calling them LaFreaks, I will have to get Trogdor to come burninate you.

The lamancha kids carry slightly less meat than Boer kids, but more than saanen or alpine kids. They taste great of course!

My LaBoers were always better than my Boer/Nubian kids........not a lot, but better. Of course that will depend on if you get a sturdy Lamancha or a fine one. I say go for the square sturdy doe. Thats another thing I like about the Lamancha.

Hmmm see I love the looks of the Nubians(I just got my first 2 NDs, doe is bred due in Aug) and thought I'd get one and make mini Nubians(one ND is a buck lol). But...if LaManchas are so good natured...and I'm a newbie...but I'm like you Lada, I think they look strange. I guess they could grow on me because I used to say I hated goats and thought they were weird looking and now I could wash my mouth out with soap for saying that! I love my NDs and their personalities!

I've actually had two people tell me it bothered them enough to help to turn them away from the breed........sure, it doesn't bother me that much, but it does some. I didn't say it hurt the breed. The breed can stand on its own, as you know.

I'm glad they decided on a different breed, they were struggling with the small ears anyway like many many people do. So if a picture of a goat in costume is too much for them to handle then they need to be happy with an eared breed. I hope they bought some of your beautiful nubians, that is why nubians are so popular, they are gorgeous and from what I've seen, the most popular and easily marketed goat.

I do like the Nubians. There's something...endearing, I guess, about their...witchiness, for lack of a better word. Maybe because I have a personality where, if I were a goat, I'd be much more likely to be a Nubian than a LaMancha? But, with them all being needy, I can see where it's something that might multiply along with the number you had, you know? I could tolerate two, maybe three. A whole herd of them? I don't think so.

Yeah, and my Nubians are culled for personality. Even my "needy" ones are sweet and love kisses. I've met awful ones, so I know they are out there. Any breed should be bred for personality. Nubians are just a breed of Divas......

I agree. But sadly it has also been the biggest thing to hold back the Nubian breed in my opinion. No other breed is so bred for looks and not functionality. I get so frustrated with people who just want a pretty Nubian but don't breed for health and productivity. Makes me want to tear my hair out! Makes looking for a new herdsire a real challenge. Its so nice to find a breeder who breeds for show and productivity!!

I have a Nubian doe and she is a total sweetheart, she likes to rub her head on mine and was a bad giver birther but is a good mom. My wether is also such a gentle sweet boy. Both of them are quite for the most part but do moan in their sleep.
My mini Nubian is very sweet and quiet. She has passed that trait onto her kids as well.

My La Mancha and her mini Mancha friend drive me nuts!! For me until they mature and stop being such pests the jury is still out. Yes they are sweet and quiet but try to escape and come to the front door if I am 5 mins late in feeding. The full size one was so jealous of any attention paid to other goats; was since I cured her of that One goes and causes trouble the other follows and helps. These two were bottle buddies and still BFFs.

Here is one someone is selling. This isn't the nice one, but she's closer, and not as expensive. This udder doesn't look quite right, does it?

There looks like a lump is on the low side of her belly. Weird looking. I don't know if it is a CL site.

Awwww! I love my Oma. She's an little eared LaMancha/Saanen cross. She's a little more standoffish then my Saanen but she is warming up to me well. I get about a gallon of milk from her day. But I will admit she looked a bit better when she had two horns. Without the horns she looks different.
