Nicole, have you have your goats tested for CAE? Do they have any lumps in CL locations?

No lumps and I've ordered the tests. I'm just glad that I have this board to come to because I would have no clue about any of this if it werent' for y'all.

Nicole, one of the best tests for cl is when you bring your goats home. If they have cl it should show up as the stress reduces their immune system. So you are probably ok but the blood test won't hurt.

Yarrow-I've looked at your website-a mutual friend told me to look at it-and it was wonderful! Mona was the friend, she goes by Rocky something Farm on here can't remember the name of it lol

Hi!!! Mona is actually going to be here this weekend (we do our annual Chicken-Roundup every spring.. we catch 50 or so and give them to Mona, to keep/sell/eat/give away... as long as there aren't that many HERE! .. (with the LGDs we have zero predator losses, even with all the chickens free ranging 24/7.. most come back to the chicken house or barn to sleep.. but they lay where ever they want... so we can't find all the eggs.. means we are forever adding new members to the flock LOL.

Was the nubian she had for sale last week, the one I saw on Craigslist with the *double milk jaws* ? ..... for sure get your ND's tested for CAE.. I guess the other will be a waiting game to see if the stress causes them to abscess. Did you see this gal's goats when you got your NDs? Did you notice (or did she show you) any with this so-called Milk Jaw???? I almost didn't post the craigslist add (and wouldn't have if there hadn't been a 2nd ad appear.. but I was curious about other folks take on it.. .also, I know this entire area of the Ozarks has a LOT of HT's... I wondered if anyone knew who the person was that was placing ads...

good luck, hopefully your new goaties will end up okay..

susie, mo ozarks

Her name is Kim and she met me in Mt. Vernon because she was going to Carthage to pick up some Alpines. She said she was getting rid of her NDs because they don't produce enough milk. I told DH that I thought she was a "goat trader". She lives in Marshfield.

I do know that when I want to get a Nubian or more NDs I'll deal with someone on here or go to an auction and see testing on paper.

Nicole, we ALL go through our "First Goats Learning Curves". Some of us luck out and buy our first goats from knowledgeable, honest people....

...most of us however, end up getting our first goats from either folks who know as much as we do about them, or folks that are not entirely honest.

(I have had severe problems with goats I bought from sweet, little old 80-something ladies who served cookies while they talked to you. They weren't so sweet when I contacted them about the problems.)

I hope very much that your learning curve doesn't come with ANY heartache at all.

Thank you, Caliann. So far they seem very healthy and they are getting tamer everyday. They really want to run with FIL's cattle lol they bleat at them all the time. Until I get them tame or tamer we don't want to put them in their fencing but they should be in it by this weekend.
