How is he? I hope he is getting better.

Also if you let the LA200 in the syringe get to room temp before you inject it it stings less. At least that is what my vet claimed.
I have switched to Biomycin since injecting a goat with LA it she ran around screaming like she was going to die and I was like OMG I did something wrong..... no more LA! lol

Nope still no better tonight. It's been so long since I gave any antibiotics I hope SQ was alright. Last time was when the vet cut the pizzle off my old buck which was about 3 years ago, he had me give him antibiotics for a week, I think he told me IM then but thought SQ was better for goats.

Is Biomycin prescription? Seems like I seen it at one of the farm stores before but I could be wrong.

The vet's office we went to for the open house was really nice. There isn't a vet there that has goats. I guess they do have a few clients that bring their goats there. I'm not sure if that means they are going to be good goat vets or not but I don't take them to the vet but very seldom.
I may have to listen to my DH grumble loudly & try them out on this little buck. Thinking I may spring it on dh & see what he say about me taking him there in the a.m. if they can get him in.

Sub Q is fine .... Biomycin is the same as LA200, but without the sting. It's an over the counter antibiotic. IF it is pneumonia, it will take a bit for the antibiotic to start doing it's job & for him to begin feeling better..and IF it is pneumonia.. you really need to get it into him tonight. (also for sure get some vit B into him as soon as you can, if you haven't already...(thiamine or B12, I buy both at my vet's.. B complex is available over the counter, but I've read that it is running low on the shelves??)

I did give him the shot already, SQ. I just thought I could pick up the BioMycin if it is better for him & switch to that. I know LA200 stings, poor little guy. Sure hope after all these pokings he still loves me!
I will get the Vitamin B tomarrow, they were out at TSC tonight so will check at my local feed store in the morning.
I just don't know what else it could be or what else to do for him! I HATE it when one of them is not acting right!

Thanks EVERYONE for all your help!

Fair warning, FDA has put a hold on all B12 complex production and that is why tsc is out and most other stores will be as well. If you can find it buy it.
There was no recall on the product just a stop production

I know the feeling, Backfourty. I love my little herd too.

You sound like you are staying on top of all you can for him. I cannot add anything new; but I am pulling for him. ((hugs))

Well I seen him get up on one of their houses where they like to lay on my way to the barn this a.m. & thought "Alright, he's going to be ok". So 1st I decide to take his temp. before I give him more probios & Baking soda & this a.m. His temp. is now 100.8, Now I'm really scared since it's low!
Any ideas on what to do next? Please I hope the low temp doesn't mean his body is shutting down.
He wouldn't eat any of his pellets, he was eating hay when I left the barn just now & he's drinking because I watched him pee again this morning.
I just don't know what else to do besides the Banamine, antibiotics, probios, baking soda.

I'm going to try & get the Vit. B today.

often in case of pneumonia the LA200 type antibotic will stop the infection from spreading but wont actually cure it, thats the problem I have had here in the past.
Did you retake his temp when it was low? How does his gut feel when you mash around on it? I have to go to work this afternoon but Im pulling for the little guy. If his temp is really that low then I would consult with a vet if you want to take on the expense

I'm going to go out & re-take his temp. again in just a bit when I check on him again.

This is a new thermometer, digital kind & it has been working well since I got it. Well not that I use it often but I just assume it's correct.

His belly feels tight I guess I would call it but that is how he always feels when I rub on him. I really don't notice any difference in there.

Just went & took his temp. again, it was 101.7. I did leave the thermometer & lube down in the barn last night so the lube was kinda cold this a.m.. Now I'm wondering if the cold lube could have caused it to read too low?

He's up & was up on one of their house again a little while ago & was down in there lean too eating hay when I just went to take his temp. again.
I do hear rumen sounds from his stomach & rubbed on his tummy again, I still think that's how his tummy always feels. I do chores & am with the goats twice a day minimum when every thing is alright so I'm rubbing & loving on all of the goats at least twice a day.

the fact that he is moving around and even eating hay today.. sounds like forward progress.. in my own herd, many times the first signs that they are feeling a bit better.. is the nibbling of hay. (you would MUCH rather see him eating the hay then the pellets..his rumen needs the hay, he can go for a long time-even forever- without the pellets) keep pushing the hay... (I know that Nuflor is rather expensive -I pay $60 a bottle.. BUT.. it really works so much better when dealing with things like this)
... BUT.. that said, you caught this early, he is showing improvement, his temp is back to normal.. main thing is stay on top of it.. keep giving the LA200 AND the banamine.. (it will keep his fever down, stop the pain, keep his lungs from scarring.. I pretty much could do with only Banamine, Nuflor, B12, Thaimine & BoSe in my goat medicine cabinet.. they are the things we use the most.

keeps us updated

From what I've read the tetracycline antibiotics, LA200 and Biomycin, need to be given 10 days.

Thanks Everyone, I sure hope he keeps improving. I can still tell he's not his normal little goatself but like you said at least he's eating hay, etc.

I had to work a long day today & DH said he was jumping around a little & up on the houses a few times(The boy's like to lay around on there roof's, I think it's the black rolled roofing makes it warm in the sun.).

My stepdad has horses(trotters) & he'll be back to michigan in May. I'm going to have him get the Nuflor & Banamine from his vet for me. The gal from work said it was no problem to give me the banamine now for my little buck, they get it in a big bottle for their horses.

He's still not 100% but I think he's going to make it, I hope anyways. I over slept this morning & when I opened up the door to let 1 of the dogs out him & 1 of his penmates were on top of their houses & when they seen me started belloring as to say "Where are you?", All the goats will do that in the morning or evening if I'm not there when they think I should be.

His temp was 101.7 this morning, he was chewing cud when I got there, ate about half his pellets & is eating hay really well now. He is feeling well enough that when the boys were out roaming around while I was cleaning they all got in my raspberry patch.

I'm going to keep up what I'm doing, it seems to be working.

I know I'm a worry wort but we can all tell when something is just not right with one of our animals. Still not sure what was wrong which is frustrating.
