last ten? days

of the longest pregnancy of my life (and my own child was overdue!)

today is day 145 from the last possible date my goat could have been bred. this is the goat who "wasn't bred" so I gave her valbazen - apparently on day 48.

So now we are in the last stretch. She is doing her part - stretching, yawning, staring at nothing, suddenly backing up two steps for no reason, pawing at the ground, licking her side... last night she lost her mucus plug.

dh has promised to put the babies down for me if there is no hope.
a friend has asked if she can have them on the bottle if they have defects that will still allow them to walk and eat.
and I am still hoping for healthy doelings.

If anyone would like to sit vigil with me I promise not to update every time I check (Has a thread ever gone several thousand pages?)

LittleRedHen 03/17/11 09:31 AM

i wish for you two healthy doelings :)

Cheryl aka JM 03/17/11 09:44 AM

we'll all be here with you~ on and off as much as we can.
Good luck!

LittleRedHen 03/17/11 09:47 AM

btw, we can be "lets look for the signs together" buddies! my doe is on day 144!

T.Miller 03/17/11 09:50 AM

I also have one on day 145 and I'm at work. DH works from home so I have him keeping a check on her, but he wouldn't know she was in labor unless he went out there and a kid was on the ground. I'm hoping she waits until the weekend so I will be home with her.
Wishing you luck.
Terry

nehimama 03/17/11 09:59 AM

I'll certainly keep up with your posts, and I sincerely hope that all goes well and there are no defects. (((Hugs)))

rootsandwings 03/17/11 01:05 PM

signs that she is going into labor soon:
grunting when lying down (or possibly sign that she is fat and uncomfortable),
rubbing on fence (or maybe sign of shedding out itchy winter coat - since EVERYBODY is rubbing on the fence)
enlarged udder and poochiness (been around for weeks)
I have to leave to take my dd back to college in 15 minutes. (that's the kicker, right?)

LittleRedHen 03/17/11 07:41 PM

i have a feeling my girl is only going to have a single. She doesn't look at all ready to kid but her date is certain. Even her back end isn't pooching up yet! but at least her udder is filling up some

rootsandwings 03/17/11 08:19 PM

well mine is certain now - since we passed the other two options!

she missed her chance to kid while I was gone this afternoon. Her udder seems to be tightening a little, but I can still feel her ligaments and the kids kicking pretty low. Her last kidding I was sure I was going to get a single because she was so small, and I got triplets! 7-8 lbs each too.

LomahAcres 03/17/11 08:53 PM

I just had one kid yesterday at day 156. Talk about a wait. ;)

LittleRedHen 03/17/11 10:04 PM

well then you renewed my hope as I really would love some triplets. when we raised goats last time every single kidding here (there was only 8) where all triplets! I love triplets. But Dizzy sure doesn't look like she could have triplets in there but we shall see. There is no day in the next week that I am busy and tonight is the worst of the weather and her ligaments were there this afternoon so i am hoping she has decided to kid at about 2pm in the afternoon on a sunny afternoon

CaliannG 03/18/11 12:17 AM

~smiles~ I am still on vigil too. So I'm up with you tonight.

Her ligs are gone.
Her udder has nearly doubled in size just today.
She paws, she grunts, she yawns.

I wait.

Hugs to you!

CarolT 03/18/11 10:29 AM

Nothing yet? Happens to us all LOL Hoping for good news...

LittleRedHen 03/18/11 10:33 AM

Oh i can't wait to hear the good news! My girl has ligs yet so no progress quite yet! i haven't gone out but thats what my 12 yr old has informed me. Its a bit chilly today but its only going to get colder the next few days.

rootsandwings 03/18/11 11:35 AM

still has her ligaments, now turns to face me and backs into a corner when I walk into the barn. sigh.

pygmybabies 03/18/11 04:32 PM

hang in there, this has been the longest 2 months for me,,,I thought spacing them out was a good idea but now I think they should all go at once. I cant wait to take the baby monitor out of my room at night. We have one more little nigerian/pygmy to go, and we didnt want her preg, she was already so small. But both the guys squeezed by me and got her so fast. We are so worried about her and zoe, after muffin has large babies that we couldnt get out, But zoe deliviered last friday with my assistence and sweet baby girl, she was little. Hoping Cocoas baby is tiny too. Dont think there is more than one. But starting losing her plug Feb 4, she is swollen baby is really low (always has been) got a good sized udder but really firm ligs, I didnt write the date down but I know it was after the 19th of October but not much after so I kinda figure yesterday was 150. The other 2 alpine/nubian and boer should be due before April as well, as we had a boys pen after the end of October and they have had no visits since then. But have been losing plug and getting an udder, but nothing to write home about. Our first baby was born Feb 1st so this is wearing me out, watching and waiting. So in the meantime, I am trying to enjoy the little ones while they are little.. keep us posted!!

LittleRedHen 03/18/11 05:40 PM

your girl is getting modest all of a sudden too? Sheesh I am having the hardest time trying to check today because she keeps moving her back end away from me and wants nothing to do with me checking. I notice everytihng back there is a little more reddish and slightly swollen so I think her hormones are shifting. But still ligaments here :( ITs going to be a long next 5 days lol

rootsandwings 03/18/11 08:28 PM

I'm not sure if she's modest or just annoyed. She ate her dinner. I can still feel them moving around. She still has ligaments.

She's doing this thing with her head that looks like she's scratching her back with invisible horns. And the 6week bucklings keep sniffing her tail.

I have to leave for most of the day tomorrow.

rootsandwings 03/19/11 09:51 AM

sigh.

leaving in an hour and a half. you could more a ship to those ligaments - I'm safe, right?

Backfourty,MI. 03/19/11 10:14 AM

Well today is day 147, any babies yet? Keeping my fingers crossed for healthy babies!

It's amazing where they hide those babies in there! I bet your girl has twins anyways!

pygmybabies 03/19/11 10:20 AM

check her right before you leave. Thats what I did last firday and then when each took shifts when we left and i got back an hour and 15 minutes before zoe had her baby.

CaliannG 03/19/11 12:17 PM

~Pm's rootsandwings and sends her 8 straight hours of solid sleep~ I hope you are off vigil soon and cuddling some sweet doelings.

rootsandwings 03/19/11 05:37 PM

sleep! hahaha!

my dd's friend is birthing sheep all month. The poor girl hasn't had 4 hours in a row since Feb and was foolish enough to try to shower yesterday - her mom made her put her clothes on her barely dry body and pull a lamb with dripping hair. (they are her sheep) I told dd she could hang out in the barn and watch movies on her laptop and text her friend all night. She said "this is your goat." Her goat had babies in the 45 minutes between swim team practice and dinner back in January. No intervention required, FF and natural mom. Sigh.

The only bad day left is Wednesday - day 151. She'll have them on Wednesday.

CaliannG 03/19/11 07:22 PM

~PM's rootsandwings and sends her 8 straight hours of sleep AND a shower in the form of a pill, along with a nice glass of the beverage of her preference to wash it down with~

rootsandwings 03/19/11 07:37 PM

lol! my family would love that shower pill - they'd order a whole case and keep them by the barn door for me to take on my way back to the house (have I mentioned I have a buck who thinks he's a puppy?)

CaliannG 03/19/11 07:59 PM

ALL of my bucks have always thought they were puppies. I understand completely. :)

DH doesn't notice. My mother doesn't notice. I don't notice. But we all notice that other people notice if we forget and go from barn to car to town without visiting the shower before that last step.:)

LittleRedHen 03/19/11 11:11 PM

tomorrow it is supposed to rain here.. perhaps that is when my girl will kid

CarolT 03/20/11 01:15 AM

One of the advantages around here, just blame it on the chicken litter spread on the fields! LOL It overwhelms almost everything else :-)

rootsandwings 03/20/11 01:17 PM

we have....

....ligaments:flame:

CaliannG 03/20/11 02:11 PM

~quickly rushes into her kitchen and makes up new pills to send rootsandwings~

1. Full body massage in pill form, complete with East Indian music and incense.

2. A LARGE Mint Julep.

rootsandwings 03/20/11 02:39 PM

If I give the mint julep to the doe, will she let the kids out?

CaliannG 03/20/11 03:27 PM

No, just the opposite. She will be too relaxed to go into labor at all. However, she will be very, very, very happy while she drives you crazy. :)

I suggest drinking the julep yourself. It's not booze. It is medicine. :)

LittleRedHen 03/20/11 10:33 PM

well, today was a nasty day weather wise which i thought for sure would throw Dizzy into labor but alas, she held firm and I was relieved LOL. I can't imagine being outside in rain, thunder and only 36 degrees! I checked her ligs one last time while feeding the goat kids and she was firm enough that I will sleep well tonight! Tomorrow is day 148!

rootsandwings 03/21/11 08:48 AM

:hair ~hands LittleRedHen a mint julep~ :hair

LittleRedHen 03/21/11 09:28 AM

I will take a heavy chocolate cake with extra creamy frosting

CaliannG 03/21/11 10:42 AM

You know what is funny? I happen to HAVE a heavy chocolate cake with extra creamy frosting.

Seems everyone at the sewing guild is on a diet.... ~sighs~

LittleRedHen 03/21/11 11:07 AM

I dont diet... i just make sure i dont overeat and make treats a treat instead of regular :) I have lost 11 lbs so far this year but i have not given up on chocolate lol... I CRAVE IT. I have been battling the temptation to get a bag of reeses pb eggs

I'd love to loose just 15 pounds but I can't seem to figure out how to make treats just treats! I need to find your will power!

When my 4 does that were bred 4 days in a row all start kidding about the same time & I don't have time to eat then maybe I can drop a few pounds!

Too bad Caliann is not closer I sure could go for a peice of that cake!

CaliannG 03/21/11 12:29 PM

I could try faxing the cake, but I think the flavor might suffer in transit.....
