Sign, sign, everywhere a sign....

So, first thing this morning, my DH gets me out of bed...no coffee, no nothing. Unusual for today, but hey, roll with the punches, right?

"You need to go check your goats."

"Okay," says I.

I go out to check my goats. Mardi Gras looks EXACTLY how she did yesterday, and feels EXACTLY how she did yesterday. ~sighs~ Still holding out on me.

Then I turn to Brie. Holy C**p! The Teaty Fairy came to visit last night and left a whole udder! She went from an A cup to a C cup OVERNIGHT!

I go to feel up her tail. I feel her tail again. I scratch her head and get her to move...then I feel her tail. I walk about 20 feet and have her follow me, then feel her tail.

Those ligs are GONE.

"She doesn't even LOOK pregnant!" I whine. "She is supposed to be 10 days BEHIND Mardi!"

~sighs~ I am spending the entire day, and night, at home, checking hoo-haas every hour on the hour..... Until she actually kids.

No goo yet, but this still effectively chains me to the property.

So, like this morning...no dinner out tonight. Just like no coffee in bed this morning.....

Even though today is our Anniversary.

The Tin Mom 03/14/11 12:41 PM

LOL!

Oh, Calliann! I am so sorry about your aniversary. Maybe both those girls will get to work & you can go out tonight to celebrate two does kidding on your anniversary!

Have a good one!

pygmybabies 03/14/11 01:04 PM

zoes ligs were gone on friday morning and baby born at 12:15 in the afternoon. Never any goo, ever, but she started loosing her plug in January so who knows, I am excited for you. Let us know!!

Oat Bucket Farm 03/14/11 01:39 PM

None of my girls had any goo until they were actively in labor. Well Hershey had the tiniest amount of goo and Tally had a very small amount of white goo. Tally's ligs were gone in the morning, by evening we had babies. Same with Hershey.

edited to add: Happy Anniversary!

cjb 03/14/11 01:40 PM

Well, they owe you all doelings for this!

Happy Anniversary!!

Are you going to disbud them? KIDDING!!

LoneStrChic23 03/14/11 01:52 PM

Happy Annivesary!! I got Tootsie as my Anniversary present ;)

Goats are evil.....hence the reason I have two babies on mom vs the bottle babies, pulled at birth like I planned..lol

Hope you get does!!!

nehimama 03/14/11 02:29 PM

Happy Anniversary! Hope you get all doelings - TODAY.

CaliannG 03/14/11 03:20 PM

~laughs~ Thank you, everyone!

And no, I am not disbudding these...they are not going to be registered kids. EVERY reason someone MIGHT have for disbudding is way gone with these kids.

If I get doelings, I can sell them and use the money to buy more goats. If I get bucklings, I can have a full freezer. Either way, I am a happy camper.:) Just hoping she doesn't wait all week. I keep checking those ligs to make sure they STAY gone....and they haven't miraculously come back yet.

Brie is the one that doesn't even look pregnant.....I expect, at best, MAYBE twins from her. She's also the smaller of my two minis. I am just crossing my fingers for an easy birth.

~chuckles~ So glad it is Monday. I re-checked my kidding kit this morning and realize that I had never gotten a new bottle of Bo-Se....so I was frantically calling my vet to see if she had any on hand, and then sent DH up there to pick up two syringes. Told her on the phone, "Well, if there are problems, I'll be calling again."

Oat Bucket Farm 03/14/11 05:58 PM

I hope every thing is going good, any babies yet?

Minelson 03/14/11 06:00 PM

Happy Anniversary! Keep us posted and take pictures of the babies!! :)

CaliannG 03/14/11 06:08 PM

No babies yet. Brie is up and down...but not looking in *labor* yet....just acting like she is going to go into labor any second now. At least *I* haven't noticed any contractions.

This is actually DH's first kidding....he has always been deployed, or at work, or whatever during kidding season, and he is going nuts. *smiles* At any rate, it seems that, to be near the kidding stall, it was decided that today (our Anniversary) would be an EXCELLENT time to muck out the ENTIRE barn...like a barn spring cleaning. The compost pile is happy. I am tired, and DH is currently curled up in the kidding stall while I make coffee.

I think I'll make some sandwiches too, or something.

No babies yet. Kidding kit is, however, out in the barn. It has iodine, Bo-Se, nitril gloves, betadine scrub, lubricant, digital camera, cotton balls, scissors, etc., etc. Just about anything one would need. :)

As soon as there are babies and I am not in the process of delivering them, I will come STRAIGHT to the computer and post.

No goo.....her butt looks like the Debbil's Own Ski Slope....her udder is so tight, I can't imagine how uncomfortable it must be and she is pawing a hole to China for the 30 seconds she lays down in that spot.

Okay, off to the barn!

LFRJ 03/14/11 06:40 PM

Given they're born on your anniversary, single doe you could call "Mary"
Twins: "Barrow and Bleu"

wintrrwolf 03/14/11 06:57 PM

Happy Anniversary!! Sounds kinda cozy you 2 in a kidding pen watching Brie, lets hope she gets it done for ya :) a special treat for your DH.

CaliannG 03/14/11 07:01 PM

~chuckles~ Short trip inside for taking the dogs out. Brie has lost her plug....we officialy have goo. Also, she has been doing the occasional pre-labor contraction.

Back to the barn with me.~stretches~ My nee milkstand, once you position a couple of bags of feed on it just so, is pretty darn comfy. :)

Backfourty,MI. 03/14/11 07:38 PM

Keep us updated & have the camera ready!! I really hope they go today for your anniversary! A big happy anniversary to you by the way!! Ours was this past Saturday.

Wishing for all doelings!!

CaliannG 03/14/11 08:14 PM

~smiles~ I am taking a break. Have the baby monitor on, so DH is taking a bit of a shift by himself. Soft labor is SoooOOOoooOOOooo tedious. And you have that thing in your head, 'this could go on for 10 hours or 10 minutes......."

So I am going to grab a bite to eat.

I'll actually be happy when the sun goes down.....fewer flies. Flies drive me bonkers.

Oat Bucket Farm 03/14/11 09:46 PM

She is really going to drag it out for you huh? We don't have any flies up here yet thank goodness.

CaliannG 03/14/11 09:52 PM

She's dragging.

Just came in. DH is taking a shift. When I left her, she was snoring, literally. :)

I am going to make a large batch of hot chocolate and get some blankets. Looks to me that this is going to be a long night.

They are both FF, so I am very intent on someone being there when kidding happens. ~sighs~ Send me a pill that makes one feel bright eyed and rested, please? LOL

Edited to add: Already made sure I have brandy on hand for when she is done.:)

Oat Bucket Farm 03/14/11 09:55 PM

When Hershey was in labor she kept grabbing my mother's finger and holding it in her teeth while falling sound asleep. Then she would wake up, let go of my mother's finger (I was by Hershey's other end watching for progress) push a few times, then get her finger in her teeth again and fall back asleep. Lacey also fell sound asleep during labor.

Cookies sound yummy. At least your hubby is willing to be a goat watching buddy.

CaliannG 03/14/11 10:00 PM

~laughs~ We're taking it in turn. Hmmm, don't have stuff for cookies....but I CAN make brownies! Great idea!

We're still in soft labor. Maybe a contraction or two per hour. Nothing big yet. *sighs*

Oat Bucket Farm 03/14/11 10:04 PM

Maybe if you promise her a brownie, she will hurry up,LOL

CaliannG 03/14/11 10:34 PM

~chuckles~ She is no longer eating. Earlier, I shared a peanut-butter and blackberry jam sandwich with her. A half an hour ago, she wouldn't even LOOK at DH's PB&J, and they are one of her favs.

I promised her lots and lots and lots of pets and scratches.

She's definitely at the point, though, that she isn't going to be consuming until after she has kids. There is *grain* in her kidding stall, as well as alfalfa pellets and fresh water with cider vinegar in i8t....and she has neither eaten nor taken a drink for many hours. (last time she ate anything was a bit of my sandwich at around 4 p.m.) She lips at a single, little pellet once in a while and then drops it.

Nope, it's gonna be a long night, until she decides to get busy. I can hope she decides to actually HAVE this/these kid(s) ON my Anniversary, but what do you wanna make a bet that she has them shortly after midnight?

thaiblue12 03/14/11 11:02 PM

Inconsiderate goat, I thought once I got back from work we would be grandmas! lol.
Watch Mardi Gras kid while you are fussing over Brie

Well Pixie is due on the 17th, we are not Irish but I have cute names picked out, I bet the she has them any day other then the 17th. So good luck with having them on your anniversary

RedSonja 03/14/11 11:04 PM

Sounds better than what we spent our most recent anniversary doing - spreading manure on our garden site until 12:30am to beat the rain that was moving in.

Gotta love homesteading, huh? :)

Hope you have uneventful kidding, lovely babies and soon, lots and lots of yummy goat milk.

-Sonja

CaliannG 03/14/11 11:59 PM

~laughs~ Mardi Gras has INSISTED that she has to be RIGHT NEXT to the kidding stall to commiserate with Brie....so I can watch both goats at the same time without worrying about the non-Mom goat getting huffy with newborns.

However, that means I get to watch poor Mardi, who is HUGE compared to Brie, attempt to sleep standing up and propping her nose in the fence to hold her head up while she snores, then waking up, pawing the ground a bunch, getting mad at the ground because it is no longer a comfy place to snooze, sighing regretfully, and propping her nose in the fence again.

She isn't going to go tonight...her butt isn't the right shape for it (doesn't THAT sound old-timey and weird?) and she hasn't sunken yet....but I would not be surprised if she went tomorrow or the next day. The poor dear is so huge that she simply cannot get comfortable.

**********************

Thanks for the well wishes, Sonja! ~smiles~ Right now, since my DARLING, WONDERFUL DH, who having been Navy, can sleep ANYWHERE, has offered to take kid watch and let me go lay down, with the promise that if something happens, he will come and get me. I left him in the barn with a lot of warm, fluffy blankets, some fresh, hot brownies, and a heating pad.

As soon as I am no longer posting in the forum, I am taking a nap.

Heritagefarm 03/15/11 12:15 AM

LOL, interesting thread, though the thought of checking on 35 sheep and 20+ goats through kidding/lambing season makes me VERY tired...

CaliannG 03/15/11 12:19 AM

~grinz~ Ahhhh, but if you were down to only TWO goats, and both were FFs, and both were like pets.......

Off for a nap.

Mm, yes, you're probably right.
Otherwise, I would probably eat them all. :whistlin:

CaliannG 03/15/11 04:13 AM

At 2:15 this morning, Brie delivered twins. One buckling, a chamoise like his dam, and a tan doeling with white markings like her sire. Birth was fast and easy with no complications and both kids are standing and walking.

Back to the barn, she hasn't delivered afterbirth yet.

manygoatsnmore 03/15/11 04:27 AM

Congrats, Caliann! We had twin buck and doe kids born yesterday afternoon, and have FF looking like she'll go any minute, but not doing anything as of the last barn check. 3 down, 5 does to go, 4 bucks to 2 does from the first 3.

CaliannG 03/15/11 05:14 AM

One left to go for me, and she is acting like she will be going in the next couple of days.

New thread with pics.

mtnmenagerie 03/15/11 10:56 AM

Wait a minute - I'm really confused here......
so your husband USUALLY brings you coffee in bed??? :hrm:

lol - Congrats on the babies!

Oat Bucket Farm 03/15/11 01:51 PM

Oh congratulations!!
