Purina goat mineral: Has 1800 ppm of copper sulfate. (Sulfates can often inhibit uptake of copper in goats)

Cargill Right Now Onyx : 2,500 ppm copper sulfate. (They changed their formula last year from copper oxide to copper sulfate. ~sighs~)
[ETA: Opps, sorry...that's just my mislabeled tag. They also have copper amino acid complex.]

I am working with my local co-op to see about mixing up a specific loose mineral for me. Trouble is, I'd have to buy it by the ton.

By the ton? Eeeks. Sooo, copper sulfate's bad? I wonder what the loose mineral is on copper that we feed to our cows? I may have to run out and look at the tag.

Copper sulfate is bad if it is the ONLY source of copper.

If your tag has other sources in addition to copper sulfate, such as copper oxide (preferred), copper chloride, or copper amino acid complex, it's good.

I would think it wouldn't matter as long as they get the copper. I know people that raise goats and sheep together and since the sheep can't have the copper, they just bolus the goats.

You can just bolus. It is, of course, better for the goats if they get their copper a little ever day, but how many of us get EVERYTHING we want? If their only source of copper is a bolus, though, I would be doing it every other month.

keep in mind death is the prominent symptom of copper overdose as its very hard to detect. Though bolus are slowly and poorly absorbed they can take a long time to cause problems that may be mistake for something else.
If the bolus isnt curing the fish tail try something like multimind (sp?) in addition it made a huge difference in large goat farm that was just bolusing

I think it's multimin. It's a mineral injection.
