New Here - Intro
Hello! I am new here, so I figured I'd post an intro. My hubby and I and 3 sons live on a small hobby farm in northern MD. We have 4 horses, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 2 Alpine does. Oh, and we just got our first baby chicks from Ideal Poultry, so we are starting the chicken adventure too!
We have had goats for about 10 years now, but started with pet pygmy wethers. We then bought two dairy does in 2008 and had our first kids in 2009. Skipped breeding/milking for 2010 due to health issues (I broke my neck then ended up preggo with our third son, long story, lol). About 5 months ago, we got a new goat who "might" be bred. She started showing signs of being in season so we took her to the buck about a month after we got her. Well, she and the buck both said that she was indeed, "in," so we calculated a due date at the end of March based on that breeding. This Sunday I went out to feed and she had two gorgeous doelings out in the field! Guess she had settled at her previous owner's and had a false heat, because these girls do not look or act like preemies, lol. I thought a doe wouldn't let a buck breed her if she was already pregnant, but I guess I was wrong on this one. I'm thrilled because we were hoping for at least two doelings from our girls, so I figured they'd both have twin bucklings, lol. Mama and babies were immediately moved to their private stall and are doing well. I was a little concerned because I missed the birth so the babies didn't get their umbilicals dipped, they were dry when I found them. She is the quietest goat I have ever had, my other goat would have woken me up if she had gone into labor alone. Hopefully, there will be no ill effects from not getting the iodine, so far they are 5 days old and quite healthy and bouncy little girls. I did get Bo-Se into them as soon as I could. I guess that's all really, just wanted to post an intro and say hi! |
Welcome to the goat forum and all the craziness, happiness, and sadness that goes on in here.
Congraulations on two healthy babies! Now since you are new, we will cut you some slack, but... you just cannot not talk about cute new babies without posting pics. :D |
Hi blue run, welcome! Yeah we want to see some pictures of the babies
|
Welcome Blue Run! So glad you're here and congratulations on your doelings!

Welcome to the best group on all of Homesteading Today. This is not a bias statement, it is scientifically proveable fact.
Please do read the sticky about the rules of the forum and enjoy!! I need to add that rule about always posting pictures of newborn babies... |
CJB, sounds like a good rule, lol. So, how do I post pics on here? The FAQ says you can attach them, but then at the bottom of this page it says I can not post attachments?
I'm going to try putting a link to my facebook album with their pictures, hope this works! http://www.facebook.com/album.php?id...153&aid=629717 |
Use Photobucket or something like it, its much easier that way.
|
Such sweet babies!
|
As I say every single time I look at new kids on this site "Those are the cutest babies! I want babies! (goats that is)" I don't always post it but I always think it!
And welcome! |
Welcome! :) :) :)

Congratulations on the new babies & Welcome to the forum, everyone here is so helpful & lots of information from all the folks here, don't know what I'd do without them alot of times!
Bummer though I don't have a face book account & I couldn't see them, it said I had to login first. I upload my photos to photbucket then copy & paste them here. |
Be welcome! Lots of insane goat people here! We'll be a bit less hectic after kidding season and only be crazy goat people during the summer.
Come breeding season, we'll be back to being insane as we share stories of "I just opened the gate for a SECOND, turned to say something, and the buck had already slipped out and GOT her!" We settle down when winter comes and complain about not having kids or even pictures of kids. Then, come spring, we'll all go insane again! So glad you could join us! Ideal Poultry has some good stock. They are less than an hour from me. |
Welcome to HT and gratz on the babies!
|
Thanks everyone! I uploaded a few pics to photobucket, hopefully this will work. :)
