Her teats are gorgeous. I was milking that Snubian with the blown-out teats for so long, I'd forgotten what a pleasure it is to milk a gal with decent handles on her.
She is doing well (Emily saw her pic and gave her the Ozark Jewels Seal of Approval ) so I'm not as concerned about that now. And the kids are alive and well, despite the fact that I'm not seeing them suckle - and they refuse the teat when I try to force them.
They'll make it or not. I'm going to bed again. I am bushed!

I no longer really catch Lucky nursing from Pawnee anymore but I know he is. She has fully accepted him back now. Sometimes he will go over and bump her udder ( I think just for fun). I do believe Pawnee inherited her momma's udder, it is gorgeous, teets are still developing though.
Grats on the kiddies, sorry about the loss of 1. Trub's constant quads are really starting to make me nervous...

Congrats, sorry about the one you lost.
I bet they are nursing when you are not looking Since there is only one doeling I would not butcher the boys so early or she won't have a friend. Mine have done fine nursing trips and quads wthout needing to bottle a kid. I just make sure they all know how and I feel their stomachs for fullness. I offer a bottle and if one if not getting enough, they let you know

LOL! If it's any consolation, Trub had trips first time out, and has thrown quad since.
Since Pawnee had twins this time, she'll probably not give you too many next time.
Probably...

Oh, forgot to say: Thai, I'm getting a new buckling in a week or so from Emily, so the doeling won't be lonesome. Once the buckling is of an age where he needs to be separated, he'll go in the Bachelor Pen with Clark the Wether, and the new gal will be with Trub, Agnes, and Rosie.

Congrats!! Its the year for quads it seems. I had two sets, you had another set and now my sister has had two sets, one Boer, one Nubian. By the way, her Nubian that just had quads today is Trubs halfsister on the sires side, and a Lark daughter.

I had a Nubian doe years ago who, after her first kidding with twins, always had quads. Always one died and the others never really thrived despite added feedings...she went in the freezer. I have remembered her fondly over the years, good loving doe to her kids, BUT..........
One of my Nubian does this year had quads, three doelings and a buckling. This doe has only half of an udder so I pulled the doelings and the buckling is with her. This does twin sister had triplets this year again. Four kiddings: quads, triplets and two sets of twins. A total of 6 doelings and five bucklings. I have had to help this year more than usual, all is the same as past years as far as feeding and environment. One more kidding the first of June....I hope!

Farmmaid, so sorry you've had such crummy luck with your quads in the past.
I think it's something in the water...

All are doing well here. That red kid is eating like a champ; Nick certainly called it when he named him "Moose."
Still waiting for that bit of placenta to make its way out. Not too concerned, though. No temp, eating/drinking well; watching out for and suckling the kids. I'm going to keep a close eye on her, and if she hasn't dropped it by next week, I'll ask Doc Miller to come out here to disbud instead of running the kids up to him.
Or maybe I'll load Trub up into the Cherokee and she can go for that ride she's been wanting.

I'd get her on antibiotics if she is still holding the bit of afterbirth. You want to prevent infection, not have to treat it. Glad they are all doing well. We need to plan our trip now.....

Awwww, I love kids! I had quads born only once and we lost one too. The remaining three we named Alpha, Bravo and Charlie and they are all alive and well.

She passed the afterbirth sometime late this morning. Still think I should get her on antibiotics? Vet said to use LA200. Is that good, or should I be using one of the 'mycins?

I would use Biomycin, its the same as LA-200 but without the sting.

Don't SAY that! I am finally on regular doe watch, with Mardis Gras chewing on her sides and doing the dance.....the LAST thing I need out of my FF, precious, first mini is QUADS.
Yeah, someone is going to tell me that Minis kid just like standards. Save your breath; I will not believe it until I experience it.
~goes back to chewing her nails to make sure they are short enough...yeah, that's it~

Christmas night my nigerian dwarf decided to kid in the middle of the night. Since I got her just a month earlier I didn't know when she had been bred, and previously owner wasn't sure. She had triplets but only one lived. It was a very cold night so I guess that had something to do with it. I want to breed her again but need to get a pygmy or a dwarf buck. On a side note: I have a nubian doe that I put in with my boer buck since I don't have a nubian buck. He was in heat but she wouldn't have anything to do with him. Is it because she's never seen him before so he's a stranger to her, or is it because she needs to be in heat also? What do I look for with her?

Bucks are just about always in rut. LOL!
No, your gal will not breed unless she's in heat. Nubians tend to be seasonal breeders, coming into heat in the Fall.

Male animals of any variety will breed any time given the chance, being in Rut only means they have more testosterone in their system hyping them up like body builders in the gym.
actual mateing and reproduction 99.99% of the time is up to the Females discretion, if your doe was not in heat then your buck was just waisting his time, its her call not his

Thanks guys. I know when he's in rut because geez you can smell him a mile away! I just didn't know when she's ready...no sign that I know of. I'll put them together starting the end of Aug. Don't want to miss the opportunity of her getting preggers. How about ND and Boers?

NDs and Boers are year round breeders. The ladies are very much feminists, and don't feel inclined to be restricted by the traditional seasons.
