PB, I don't know that you did anything wrong during the pregnancy. There are times I overgrain, but my does haven't had any issues with huge kids. I think it's just one of those darned things. I could be wrong (goodness knows THAT'S happened a few times before...)

Still, if you want to check on what is a good amount of grain, I'm not the person to ask. My pygmy wether is as big around as he is tall, so I have no idea...

(((Hugs))))

All of us at my house are praying for you, your dh & Muffin! You did a great job in a horrible situation - you saved Muffin - and that counts for a lot!

What a Horrible experience even for folks that are expereinced with kidding! Sending you lots of Big hugs & prayers that Muffin does well & no more problems this kidding season.

I would put preperation H on her back end, that will help her with the swelling & discomfort back there.

Milking her is a good thing like everyone else has already said. You can freeze what ever you get from her & save in case you need it for another does babies if it's needed.

Bless your hubby for being so much help, your vet......just bad all the way around. It is not normally like that, Thank Goodness or most of us would probly throw in the towel.

PB, I'm so sorry about all you and Muffin went through. Sounds like you and your husband did everything possible for her. Hopefully the rest of the births are easy.

Oh my, I am so sorry to hear all this, I was so praying for a better outcome but as others have said you all did the best you could. I don't know that I want goats anymore after hearing your sad story. I am not sure I could have been as strong as you were through all of that.

Pygmy goats are often known to have kidding problems, though mine never have had them, so I'm told. . .not sure about Nigerians - I only have recently purchased some Nigerians. . .

5lbs each is huge. . .should have been 3 lbs tops . . .so bless her heart and YOURS.

I highly suggest not breeding back to whatever buck sired those kids.

I'm sorry you had to go through that

Merks, when your time comes to do what you have to do, you will step up to the plate and do it.

These things don't happen all that often. But on a forum like this, where you have so many breeders from all over the world, you WILL see this - and while it's really awful when it happens, how fortunate we are to have others who will share their stories and allow us to share their sorrows - AND their joys!

And knowing what CAN happen helps us to prepare for the worst while expecting the best - and everything else in between.

{hugs}

I havent read many replies but I tell you what Pygmybabies those kids were HUGE those are Boer weights!! Holy moly!
Most of all, as someone has already said, you took action! It didnt turn out. But you would have a hard time forgiving yourself especially in the light of this sad situation; simply babies were too big.

ETA Ok now that I read thru you said more like 5lb, still large.

Don't forget that if there's trauma and swelling from the trauma to the does vulva area after kidding, you can use Preperation H to reduce swelling and make the doe more comfortable. It works!
