I have always let my does have their kids sleep next to them, and have never had a kid get laid on and die. I have seen weak kids struggle along, or healthy looking kids that the dam rejected which then died. I would suggest that the doeling was one of these- a healthy looking kid that had a heart defect or whatever, that grew well in utero but just couldn't hack it. Or, if she was really large, they sometimes get injuries that we can't see as they are born. Unless the dam is a truly stupid sort of doe, or was so weak or run down that she couldn't move around easily, I would assume that the kid didn't have what it took to make it. Still sad, though. :-(

Hmm. Didn't think of that Chamoisee. She was larger than the other two.

Momagoat61 I LIKE that idea. I think we might do that.
