Reptyle, do not feel bad over sharing the post. If you don't keep goats, you'd have no reason to know the info seems sketchy or the condition seems to rate a lower price on the goats

It was very nice to think of the goat board when you found the link, I think.

From what I have gleaned, those prices are not that unheard of down in Texas. Certainly up here they are way out.

Definitely don't think it was bad to share it either. It could have been a good place for someone looking for a goat. In this case, it is questionable though.
There are herds that run that many that are clean. It is definitely doable. You generally need to start with clean stock and be willing to maintain clean stock.
It certainly doesn't take long to get up over 100 goats if you want to. We only kidded out 12 does in 2002. Less than 10 years later and we are kidding out over 80 a year. Only that because I sold a number of bred does this year.
I should point out that the majority of that was with internal growth. I think I have brought in about 12 does (?) in those years.
We are well over 150 head of goats currently. I feed (and keep water to) 99 goats, 6 heifers and 2 steers down at one area of the farm. We also have the 28 kids, their 15 dams, 8 heavy bred does, 2 short bred does, 8 late 2010 doelings and 3 other goats down at the milking barn right now.

I would much rather people post links like this than not!

As I stated before, I was actually looking at this one myself but it was great to hear more experienced people's opinions. It sort of solidified in my mind the bad vibe I got when I went to the site and looked around.

I hope they are able to find good homes for them all... I just don't think it'll be my home :-P

Just wanna say that the registration numbers checked out for the several alpine does I looked up.

But, it's a BIG red flag when there is no mention of disease testing on their site. If they were a tested herd, you KNOW they'd post the information. No reason not to, unless they are either NOT tested OR they came back positive when they DID test.

I think you did the right thing, please don't feel bad. There is at least one person that was considering buying from them reading here (and who knows how many lurkers that didn't post) that might have gotten sick goats if not for you.

Yes, the alpines I looked up were ADGA numbers. I looked up 6-7 of them. None of the registration numbers I see on the site look funny to me...?

I can't even get the site to open on Moxilla. I get "connection reset by server' even after only a couple of seconds.

Did the site go down, or can others access it?

The site is still there. Try opening with IE. They goats are priced $450 and up, one is $850, they say they are pregnant so you are getting 3 for the price of one. They claim that if the goat is not pregnant they will give you a free breeding later on. Not sure how that would work if they are all sold.
I thought everything was bigger in Texas? The goats are not but the prices sure are

Reptyle, post, maybe you will find someone a good deal. Plus all this critiquing gives us something to do during the cold Winter

Okay, was able to get to it in a kinda roundabout way.

Taking forever for the pictures to load, but so far, Peanut, Phyllis and Morgan look sickly skinny to me. Vanna ( The Saanan looking Vanna, not the Alpine looking Vanna) and Kianna look like they have blown teats.

They say the goats receive top-tier medical attention and are up to date on worming and all treatments...but no *specific* mention of being a disease-free herd. ~shrugs~ I dunno.

This is Texas, and right now most of the larger herds do NOT test. I have been given ALL SORTS of reasons for that, and they are all loads of crap.

However, yeah, for what they are the prices are high...UNLESS they are guaranteed tested negative for CAE, CL, and Brucellus. IF they are both disease free AND registered, then the prices are fair barring any major udder defects. (Blown teats count as udder defects)

And yes, they are a temptation...L'Amour and Paprika were just down right CUTE...but...

...I wish these folks all the luck in the world selling off their 140 goats THAT far north for the prices they are asking.

Yes, Annabelle was sold for $250, Ticklespot was sold for $250, Maggie was sold for $300, Jasmine was sold for $300, Sissy was sold for $300, and Cookie was sold for $300. All but one of those was a Nubian, so I am betting a single buyer for five of them.

Only 114 of those listed to GO!

Actually the prices are NOT bad...IF they are tested disease free, then they are a good deal.

If not, well....
