I used classic old movies for a litter of whippets that was really fun to name: Lost Weekend, Now Voyager, Citizen Kane, Key Largo, High Noon. The one that the stud owner got was Tootsie, which they picked out and I figured would eventually be an old classic. She was supposed to be Grand Hotel.
Now that I have lots of sheep, they just have numbers and only a few have special names. Not as fun.

I don't do a whole herd theme with names. I do use some theme names with certain lines. I used to have a Saanen doe named Angel. I lost her giving birth several years ago and kept her Snubian daughter from that kidding and named her Angel's Miracle. All Miracle's doelings get names with angel themes. The daughter I retained from last year's kidding is Angelique. Since her buck kids are grades, I don't name them. They are all wethered and sold for meat or weed eating. My grade La Mancha does all have flower names. My first grade LM was named Peach Blossom. Her daughters were named Hyacinth and Cherry Blossom. Hyacinth was traded to a friend for stud service and she didn't keep up with the flower theme. Cherry lives here and had a doeling I named Wisteria. I also have one line of Nubians who have rock & roll names. Mom is Foxy Lady. Her daughter is Ruby Tuesday and her son, Voodoo Child. I have another line of Nubians with a diferent theme. I had a flashy doe I named Razzle Dazzle. I named her daughter Diamond Dazzle. Diamond's daughters have been named Diamond Dust, Black Diamond and Queen of Diamonds. This year, I've bred Diamond to Voodoo, so I'll try and come up with names containing both themes if possible. Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds would fit, but is probably too long for ADGA. The rest of my Nubians don't follow a general theme, but I'll sometimes name a litter with a theme,

We don't do whole herd themes anymore. Instead we do themes that go with the parent names.

I know a farm that names all their goats by a certain letter of the alphabet depending on the year they were born

We do that. Whatever the letter assigned by ADGA for that year's tattoos is the first letter of the name for every kid born that year. The sire's initials are part of the kids' names and we try to tie in the kids' names somehow with the dam so the name alone tells us what year the goat was born, sire, and dam, without having to look anything up. It gets kind of boring though because you're sort of limited and sometimes you learn later that the given name really does not suit the goat at all.

I would just have a hard time coming up with a bunch of names that start with "X". LOL I'm not that creative.

The herd I got my does from used culinary items for doe-names and cuts of meat for boy-names, lol..... My does, Coffee and Cayenne. The boys that year were Sirloin and Chuck, ha ha. She had tons of does: Salt, Pepper, Paprika, Thyme, Rosemary, Oregano, etc.
