It is possible. They have plenty of trees to rub against, and their favorite dining seems to be the mesquite.....which as everyone knows is a nasty, be-thorned tree placed upon this planet by the Lord of the Underworld himself.

The abscess before it was cleaned out was hard....and the erudite was very *dry*...not runny at all. This second swelling is hard as well. It was not "mushy" either time.

I agree that with all the trauma we experience with critters we must have a sense of humor....I would go insane without it. For me it helps to balance things out in my brain.

If you don't want to have trouble looking at sushi and wasabi paste again, don't read that thread!

For me it just re-affirmed that I was right to stay away from sushi, lol

Is there any other swelling aroung the abcess? My horses leg was completely swollen from elbow to cornet band. Although I suppose it could be a thorn from one of the Lord of the Underworld Trees that has got itself worked down in there.

No swelling, just a lump.

What I am really interested in, though, is any info people might have about a C,D,& T shot site lump. She had had her vaccination just before that lump showed up, (a couple of days before) it is simply that the erudite looks....well, dry, like CL...even though the lump itself is hard.

Trying to get some hope up...although something nice has happened that I'll ask advice about in another thread.

I got a wether and a doeling last year from a guy on Craigslist (I know, I know.) But he had records from the vet on most of his herd, the farm was clean and the animals looked well taken care of. He did the vac's before I got there and showed me the bottle and wrote down the lot number and all of the info on it in case there was a problem.

A week later the wether got a lump. I panicked and freaked out. After 2 days without it going away I took him to a vet so they could look at it and do a draw. When I got home I noticed my doeling had a lump in almost the same exact spot. That night the seller finally got back to me and told me that he was 99% sure that it was NOT CL and that it was in the area that he vacc'ed.

The tests all came back negative. It was a reaction to the injection. Found out later that it's not that uncommon.

Think back and try to remember where you gave the vac. Is it in the same spot? If so then my guess is a reaction.

Where exactly is the lump? Is it in a normal vaccination area?

The lump is in front of the right shoulder, just above the tip (ridge? where the shoulder blade comes to a rounded-off point?) of the shoulder blade. It is in a normal vaccination point. Unfortunately, I didn't give the vacs, a vet did. ~sighs~ Else I would know for sure.

Do shot site lumps eventually lose the hair? That's what made me take her to the vet to get it cleaned and tested, the lump lost hair.

Yes, shot sites can loose hair but not always.Usually a shot reaction is a hard lump like you described. Does your vet remember where he/she gave the vacs at?

~chuckles~ Unfortunately, no. "There have been a hundred dogs pooping on the floor, 300 head of hogs vaccinated, and I have had breakfast since then. I'm sorry."

Exact quote. ~smiles~

I'm going to bet on vaccination bump, and the exudate is just the body's response to the shot.

I think the new bump is lymph filling the void where the bump was.

Um, I don't think that's a CL spot. I think it has to be on a gland.

Garlic can get through the walls of an abscess, although not real readily. However, you can use it in high doses and for a long period of time if needed. I would also add colloidal silver (which you would need a machine as buying and using in quantities needed would be ridiculous). Colloidal silver is able to get through about anything.

Yes, CL spots lose hair before they rupture, but other abscesses do to.
