Wow Cheryl, you have all the fun at your place!

Good luck dealing with your stray critters.
At least they aren't stock-killing dogs.

If a strange goat appeared at my house, I'm not sure what I'd do. If he looked like he was not in tip top shape and health, he'd likely get shot ASAP. If he was healthy appearing, I'd likely tie him up as far away from my goats as possible, and post on craigslist etc for a couple of days either trying to find his owners or give him away free. A single horned, intact, mutt goat is not worth the health risk to my entire herd.

The picture of my mini Nubian above has a Nigerian Father & a full Fledged Mini Nubian Mother, I have copies of the papers for his sire & dam & his ears are not really long & droopy like a nubian.
They are bigger than a Nigerians & a little floppy but still have the Nigerian in his ears.

hmm my guess would be nubian/ nigi or nubian/pygmy(kinder), which I had a doe that looks allot like him. The dishy head would have me leaning more to nigi / nubian since both my mini's have the nigi face. The ears tell me nubian, my kinder had the airplane ears like that AND she went to a home where the guy had another nub/pyg cross that had the same ears.

We are very new to all this, but our (Kinder) breeder trained us well. She is equally as meticulous about selecting her bucklings to maintain her lines as she is with the does, and from what we gathered, she is not reluctant to cull for a variety of faults (hopefully finding appropriate homes for them but if not - off to freezer camp they go).

Not knowing his heritage, (not to mention even his breed type) I'm afraid he'd go to freezer camp if he showed up here, too...and then I'd have put out a Craig's list ad thanking the person who dumped the animals for all the free sausage and maybe inviting them to a back yard BBQ featuring Cabrito! Okay, I jest, but seriously, unless they all escaped, it is beyond shameful that someone would dump them like that.

Hows your neighbor handling the pig situation?

Honestly I don't know if they've even noticed. I don't see them often, they don't put much work into their cows, and they've not said anything to me. Both pigs are still alive and in there~ I see them when I drive down my driveway. The little one must have finally mistakenly hit my hot wire because he's not pushing through my fence into my pigs pasture anymore but standing on the other side looking wistfully at my little pig!

If they ask me to go in there and get those pigs I might do it. But I'm not going to volunteer to go in there and remove those pigs for them. We are not unfriendly with this neighbor~ but it's defiantly not a "good friends" kind of relationship either.

i really dont see where you guys are saying its a Nigerian Mix, that does not look like a small goat, Cheryl how big is the goat?? is it full size?

a Mini nubian is in fact already a cross of a REAL nubian and a Nigerian, if you put another Nigerian in the mix that would help breed out the floppy ears, kinda pointless if you want to remove all the attributes of the Nubian breed if you ask me, breeding down to a small normal eared dish faced animal away from the large big boned roman nosed floppy eared breed,

Find somebody wanting to practice roping! Then they could rope them from outside the fence hopefully. Or bait with corn, shoot pigs, drag out while the bull isn't looking.

Honestly I'd probably do the same as you - leave them alone as you've got so much other stuff to deal with.

OH~ I should get more pics if you want to know exact size! He's pretty small~ my friend here and I have been arguing about if he is "small" or not. I think he looks a lot like my yearling boer buck looked last year~ short but still growing. She thinks he is full grown done growing~ in which case he is much shorter than the other full size goats I have!

RedSonja~
things here going slower than anticipated. Chicken camp still tomorrow~ but the pot belly pig looks like it's waiting for Thursday too. We are hoping to do some on Friday but it depends on how the morning loading my steers to the processor goes. Either way~ if you want to bring a goat for freezer camp review the post at top of the forum Ozark Jewels posted~ we printed and follow her directions! (Thanks Emily!)

I was judging the "lost" buck's size from the pipe gate behind him in Cheryl's picture: he only comes half-way up to the 4th pipe. The little buck in the picture with me (post #14) was only 7 months old and already up to my thigh. His son is now a BIG full-sized goatie at my belly-button level (at his withers).

Looks half nubian, looks like a Kinder to me but kinda big, so maybe an alpine, nubian cross.

Looks nubian and/or Ober mix to me, maybe Kinder.

I would also worry about any health issues he brought onto your place.

If they WERE dumped (which, to me, seems like that's the case...) WHY did they pick your house? Maybe it was someone who's driven by and seen your goats and pigs?

Could be a local?

My husband and I throw a big 4th of july BBQ every year. we invite everyone from his work and tell everyone that they can also bring guests. Pot luck so more people~ more food for everyone. So a LOT of people know we are the "Weird neighbors" who keep snakes, rats, a big sulcatta tortoise as well as all the barnyard animals. Someone probably doesn't know me well enough to know I butcher a lot of our own food in my front yard when we don't have company.

Nope~ haven't checked the bucks teeth~ not actually sure what I would look for. I'm about to move him in with the little feeder piglet so he has a place to stay.

I wish you were farther North! After today I really feel the back pain from doing all this butchering we been doing!! Wow am I whooped!! And I'm not even close to done!
