Sorry to hear of your troubles. Don't beat yourself up though. I had one do the same thing here a month ago.
There is an old cement patio next to the house that never got broken up after the remodel and I did not think anything of it. Well the kids were playing on it and doing flips off it. I went inside to eat lunch and when I came out I heard a pitiful cry at the back of the house. One doeling had wedged herself on her back in a 4" crack. With every move the cement was cutting into her, crushing her lungs and making her wiggle more. Took me over an hour to free her. I did not lose her, but for a few days it was touch and go.

Oh, I am so sorry.

Please don't beat yourself up over this. It was a freak accident. And sometimes, you just get a run of bad luck.

Goats have a way of pointing out things we'd never considered before. Design flaws, hazards, poor choice of planting areas... Goats are so clever and curious, they're a danger to themselves sometimes.

Hope you find a buddy for your gal, and that your heart mends soon.

I am so sorry! Don't give up yet! I'm sure most of us here have lost an animal of some kind or another over the years to weird accidents or an illness we didn't know what it was, etc. It sucks Big time, but hang in there I think most of us have had more of the good times than we've lost animals. They can be alot of joy too. When you start out it just seems like such a learning experience & head twirler sometimes.
Sending you my Hugs!

I vote for a wether too, they are my favorites!

Shannon,

Where in NC are you? I have a small lamancha cross wether that would make you a good companion. He is friendly and likes attention but is not obnoxious about it. I have been thinking about finding him a home anyways because the does keep running him off of the hay. He is at the bottom of the totem pole here. I think he would work well as a one on one companion. Or at least not with 8 does to compete with! I am near Appomattox, VA but regularly travel to Martinsville and sometimes Danville. Let me know if you are interested and I can send you some pictures and more info. He would be free by the way.

Angela

Ok, this is not a very good picture but it is the last one of him that I have on the computer. I was just taking it while he was on the stand for hoof trimming. It was taken at the beginning of April and the sunlight in it is bad. I will try to take some more/better ones tomorrow!
