I too have done this and all but one time did it not work out ok.
I have taken cash plus a check. I had two very nice ladies come here 3 times to pick out goats, play with goats and I took their check and it cleared. They seemed very trustworthy plus on the last day they came they decided to take a 4th goat
I do it by the person and maybe I will get burned again, who knows.
The time I got burned was with the family of my son's soon to be ex-girlfriend ( yippee she is now gone!) . They strung me along for months, gave me $20 out of the $150 they owed me. Made me feel like a collection agent, but they also wanted a free breeding to my blue eyed buck. As if!
I repo-ed the goats. They had 7 acres, were making them live in a "wooden shanty town" and I gave them tame goats and got back freaky goats. I made me mad all the way around due to the care the goats recieved and the run around I recieved.
Right now I am angry over no-shows, or please hold them so I can come and see them. I will not ask people who have not even met the goats yet for a deposit. but I am going to start tacking on a $20 fee for each time their butts do not come.
I am glad it worked out for you and you got the money. It is not the $80 but the principal of it.
