The lump is on the last rib, isn't it? If so, I bet another goat butted her. It's still not a location for CL, and isn't the right size.

As for the buck - Do you feed grain? It may be UC (urinary calculi) - bladder stones. That can cause EXTREME pain. Bucks need no grain, and do best on a grassy hay or grass mix. Bucks should also have Ammonium Chloride mixed with their free choice minerals to prevent UC from happening. Is/was he peeing? Have you taken his temperature? It does NOT sound like CAE - which is swelling of the knees and general arthritis-like pain.

I'd suggest calling vets again and asking for help. If nothing else, someone might be able to help over the phone, with you describing symptoms.

Normally we'd never feed Busgy (the buck) grain but recently we noticed he had been stealing peas from an old shed .He was able to get them to come thru cracks . I totally forgot about this as we fixed the shed and I thought nothing of it . I'm not sure how long he had been doing that ?????

I will call the vet again with this info ,maybe they'll help me .

Makes me feel SO much better to hopefully not be dealing with CAE or CL here . Thankyou for helping to ease my mind !

Well, I have no advice to give that hasn't already been given, but I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am to hear what a hard time you are having. I hope that Bugsy makes a recovery soon and that your girl's swelling goes down soon (I agree that she was probably just bumped). I can't imagine how stressful it must be being stuck with no car and sick animals. It must be just killing you. I hope that things improve soon. Good luck and please keep us posted!

Wow that lump looks painful, but you said she isn't showing signs of pain. Myself I would closely monitor it. Am very surprised if it was a headbutt injury that she isnt having pain...
The buck I would have given same advise as above, antibiotic's, pro-bios, and electrolytes, and I would prolly throw some goat balancer in as well. But all is moot if you dont have on hand right now.
Did notice another thing..you have the same summer rubber shoes I do

Amy that looks an awful lot like a hernia especially if it's soft like you said.
Have no idea about your buck but I agree to load him up with antibiotics and Fortified Vit B complex. Could he have something lodged in his throat? Have you seen him drink or eat at all? Is he cudding?

With Urinary Calculi they are in a lot of pain, not able to pee and can get "water belly" from urine accumilating. I don't think he has that problem.

So sorry if these are stupid questions but what can I do for her if it's a hernia
?
And what is a "water belly " ? As it almost looks like his belly is getting bigger . He hasn't pooped or peeds in the past 24 hours for sure . Have not seen him cudding ..... Might have drank some water ,I'm not sure as it got spilled . Gave him hay but he won't touch it .

He is shaking now , his neck and face . He looks so miserable .

If he has not urinated in 24 hours AND his belly is getting bigger, then his bladder is becoming overfilled with urine (waterbelly) and it will either rupture or the toxins will build up in his bloodstream and he'll likelydie very soon. Sorry to be so direct. I hope I'm wrong again today.

A stone can be stuck in the pizel area at the end of the penis. It is a narrow opening and a vet or anyone who knows what they are doing can cut off the pizel to unentrap the stone. They can be higher up though and this may not work. I read that some lines can have narrower openings so more prone to problems, but can be prevented to a certain extent with ammonium chloride. I wouldn't want to breed any goats with known UC problems just in case it's hereditary. I would try to feel the end of penis for a possible stone. I don't have any personal experience with this but if I felt a stone I would do surgery if there was no vet around. If he is shaking that is a sign of pain. I'd call the vet and explain your concerns and animal in pain. Maybe he'd get behind out there sooner.
Sorry you're dealing with an ill goat. Goats can be a challenge and with goats it's all about prevention.

You are staying well on top of it all. Those goats are lucky you are looking out for them.

Some good advice here and I concur it does not look like CAE or CL. However, I agree with the poster who said it might be a hernia simply because she is not showing signs of pain.

As for your buck, I have read many posts throughout the years about using "ammonium chloride" on a daily bases. Some have said, if your buck does "not" have the urinary tract problem, giving them this ac can cause them to have it; thus, I would be cautious about giving him this without finding out for sure if it is necessary.

Too bad you're so far away or I'd come and look at your goats. Montana is a big state. When one of my goats is acting sick and also displaying respiritory stuff, I give Nuflor, Banamine and fortifed B complex. I've never had a buck with UC, but I don't think they have symptoms of pneumonia along with it. The doe looks like she may have a hematoma. Is she in with any horned goats? I rushed one of my does to the vet one year believing she had a hernia. The vet thought it was likely a hematoma and told me to wait and see what it did. Sure enough, it went down in a few days. I also observed a horned Boer doe reach under my Nubian girls and literally scooop them up with her head. I sold the horned goat.
I hope your vet will be able to come out and treat your goats. The buck sounds like he needs help quickly. Do you live anywhere near Melstone? I know a goat breeder who lives there and knows alot about treating goats.
