Health first, if you don't have a CAE negative test in hand you can bet most nubians under a couple of hundred dollars are positive, worst for CL. No matter who you are going to buy from, no matter what the reputation on the internet, ask to see current herd tests! A cheap goat can sometimes be your worst nitemare. Vicki

Twospirit, it sounds as though you are wanting goats as a permanent addition to a large variety of animals you already enjoy. I would suggest you "start" with a good "dairy" doe as you can get and a buck from a "meat" group. Yes in these times you will pay more than what quality goats sold for in years past; however, as mentioned above, you do get what you pay for. (Just be sure you do a little research on the owner/herd you are interested in purchasing from. I doubt you would want any diseases brought in.)

I personally have raised Alpines, Toggenburgs, Boers & Nubians. They each have nice qualities. My "milk" preference was the Togg; however, Nubians have a lot of cream I enjoy too. Since we butcher what we do not sell each year, we brought in a Boer to see what the difference would be meat wise. Boers derfinately have more meat, which is a plus. We finally decided our preference for "duel purposes" (milk & meat) were Nubians. Nubians have a personality we enjoy, are good sized (150+ lbs does; 250 lbs bucks) for meat processing & give more than enough milk (10 lbs over a 10-month lactation) for our purposes. (I might add my Nubians have a "protective" attitude I like too.)

Don't know if they're Nigerians, or if you're still looking any more. Saw this and thought of your post here.
